Greb, Langford, SRR and Charles are all very well at comparable levels where resume is concerned. Much of SRR's build-up is how talented he looks in the ring and his general surreal skillset. It sometimes becomes secondary that he toppled 9 Hall of Famers, 11 World Champions and some 50+ rated fighters. I rarely ever see anybody mention the numerous great fighters he beat, but rather his skills and H2H ability. With Greb and Langford, it's obviously the complete opposite. It's all resume, and there's little if anything else to base it on. Langford has some footage, Greb has footage of the opponents he beat.

Ezz outranking Robinson is a stretch, even for me.

Somewhere between 9 or ten is the best for me .. and that's giving him every benefit of the doubt ....

Would likely pick the following over him off the bat ...

    Robinson
    Armstrong
    Duran
    Whitaker
    Greb
    Paq
    Langford

I'm sure there are a few others if I give it serious thought .. still Ez at 175 was amazing ...

I don't have him over Robinson, but Charles was nowhere near as carefully managed as Robinson and that counts for quite a bit. Robinson wasn't going near Murderers' Row -Charles was whipping the best of them while still in high school.

No typo ... what Paq has accomplished against terrific competition is amazing to me. When you compare the ratio of size increase in opponents it is more so ..

I would take a middleweight Charles of the 40s over Robinson strait up any day. And I loved Robinson. There was a reason guys like Robinson and La Motta did not fight Ezzard.

A guy who managed to become the best HW in the world is obviously going to be too big for a man who was at his best as a WW in a h2h battle, the fact is in a p4p sense Robinson was more dominant at his best, had more fights, more wins, fewer losses & looks a better fighter on film.

yes sir. but h2h in the 40's, when Robby was moving up and fighting Abrams, La Motta, etc.m Ezzard would of won I beleive. As evidenced by his ko of Moore and others, maybe even, dare it be said, by KO. and this takes away nothing from Sugar's pfp rating. Just too big, strong and hardhitting is Ezzard. btw, I have Joe Louis as the greatest fighter pfp ever.

Joe Louis has Sugar Ray Robinson as the greatest P4P ever.

Amen about Ezzard. He was a killer right up to the time he became one in the Baroudi fight.

S, i agree with you that the Ezzard Charles, unbeaten as an amateur who was only beaten by underated Ken Overlin as a young MW, would have beaten any MW version of Ray Robinson H2H. Of course Charles was a MW starting out whilst Ray Robinson was in his prime a WW.
P.S. what does this say about Ken Overlin, past his peal beating the much feared Charles and drawing with him in a rematch ?
Ken Overlin those days was called " the poor man's Harry Greb "...

Louis would have been too modest to include himself i'm sure. he had dempsey as the greatest heavyweight ever.

i think robinson considered louis as the greatest fighter ever for what it is worth.
