Do you think Wlad can make it to twenty defences?

Vitali has definitely had worse injuries, and I'd argue that his longevity after those injuries was a damned sight unlikely too, even with several fewer fights-and several fewer world-level fights, and the years of retirement. You can call it probable for little brother. I call it only possible, but I really doubt it. It's easy to look around and say nobody troubles him but time can trouble him and you really never know when you run into an unlikely guy to put you in real trouble.

I was recently reminded of this when watching Weaver/Holmes again. And let me tell you, Volo is no Holmes when it comes to getting out of trouble like that and Weaver wasn't anything special. It could be anybody. Povetkin, Helenius, Solis, whoever. They don't have to be likely. Ten title fights and Volo making them longer than likely necessary, it's some seriously prolonged jeopardy, mate. A lot of rounds, and all it takes is one lackadaisical moment to derail you and greater fighters like Lennox have had them breakup a great reign. There are some good reasons why virtually no one makes it that far, no matter the "luck" they may have in not having other great fighters to challenge them.

Wlad was only recognised as the true no 1 when he beat Chagaev

Have to be fair to compare!

champs of the past defenses was when they was no 1

If Wlads wbo counts then the other guys deserve additional defenses since they was top 4 in the world

Nah. I think he probably retires before he gets there. Has he made any sort of declaration that it is a goal?

We're not counting WBO defenses and Wlad has been #1 since he beat Byrd for the IBF title.

Like most heavies these days Wlad is just to inactive. Fighting once a year is a joke and a disgrace to the sport, he and other top fighters should be fighting at least 3x a year if not more.

McGrain, did you really want to post this on Classic, but figured they move it here, anyway? Because, honestly, I don't think it turned out that bad, for a general forum thread on a Klitschko. :D

Wlad should be fighting more often when he has the chance - THREE times per year, not once or twice.

He's twice wasted over six months waiting for Haye, only to have him pull out the first time.

Vitali made the wiser move and went ahead with Chisora.

Wlad needs to fight more regularly. There's no one seriously challenging him now so he might aswell go through guys like Mormeck and Thompson. It's not particularly exciting but it's good to stay active

    I don't think he'll hit 20

C'mon boxing weakest division was when Joe Lewis prevailed. Joe was knocked down and in trouble with non-other than"2 ton" Tony Galento.
Floyd Patterson was another weak division champ.
    Maybe I misunderstood your post.

I think with lots of fighters Wlad could set up defences two at a time. Even as he signs a deal to fight Mormeck he could be signing to fight Thompson three months after. When the Thompson fight is over, negotiate two more fights. Adamek and someone else. Arreola maybe. Perhaps by that time Povetkin, Helenius or someone else would be willing to step up
