    Ike Williams

is close to Louis in ring form, but Ike is more agile with better head movement and and better combination puncher and fighter for me

I agree Arguello is more closer to Louis than he is to Marquez

Arguello as much as anybody, he just lacks that blinding hand speed and snap.

Whilst Arguello was more of a blunt, bludgeoning puncher that relied on timing and precision to make up for lack of handspeed (Louis obviously utilised all three of these attributes) like Louis it was Arguello's feet that were slowest of his weapons. Whilst not ridiculously fast (and taking into account Louis' size and the fast guys he also fought, he was ridiculously quick of hand IMO) I'm actually surprised Arguello often gets pulled up for having slow hands (not saying you're sayin' that JT, you offered 'blindingly' rather than just 'fast', just something that gets my goat in general.

I would say the Kobayashi fight is the pinnacle of Arguello looking like a mini Nicaraguan Louis. I can't remember where I read it but remember Louis being Alexis' idol, and shows: patient composite puncher who mixed shots to body and head seamlessly with destructive power in either hand and form straight out of the textbook and a shuffle that saw his feet always in position to plant regardless of which shot presented itself.

Williams does resemble Louis, but for me he's Roy Jones with a technical grace rather than superior athletic gifts.

Arguello towered over most of his opponents and that might be the reason he doesnt remind me much of joe louis.
when i think of Louis i always think of that trademark arcing right hand to the left kidney/back/ribcage. i never noticed if alexis did that much. i probably need to see more of him.

Nah, Monzon utilised his size advantages way more than Arguello, who was hittable and stalked his opponents constantly, Monzon was happy playing the matador, Arguello met bulls head-on and wiped them out.

    Speaking of Monzon.

Cervantes against Dejesus reminded of Monzon - the way he imposed his power and size and controlled the action.

yeah they are very different. theres just something about them, a looseness in the way they operate. gangly but fluid.

i think the differences between Louis and arguello are quite stark too. but i cant think of any fighter that resembles joe louis

Obviously not a touch on Louis in terms of greatness or power or anything but I remember when I used to watch Michael Moorer fight I used to say to my mates all the time that the way he used to throw his jab reminded me of Louis - no where near the fighter or the jab I know but he just reminded me of Joe the way he threw it - aside from that I used to really like Moorer a very under rated boxer in my opinion in his own right - lovely methodical efficient approach and never seemed to be in a rush and great technique
