Well, I don't think there was any alternative to war. Sadly though, Chamberlain is judged by hindsight and his judgment, whilst we condemn it now, was seen as the right thing to do by many people at the time. Most who had lived through and had seen the horrors of WWI were not in any rush to enter that type of war again.

Personally though, I don't think the aggression the Germans showed should ever be tolerated.

I think he was a wise man. I think he alone knew what the German Army of that period was capable of. Remember that this was not the weak army that was overrun by Nazis like it would become later in the war. This was the best trained, most advanced, or arguably motivated army the world had seen in a long, long time....Remember that the Allies only started winning after the Eastern front was opened. Neither the Americans or the British were likely to win that war without the Russians.
