I did some bits and bobs at Frank Maloneys and he actually offered me work- i'd have loved to work there - would have been great as I think Frank is desperate for new idea's.

Boxing is so, so popular too- gurantee if it went back on ITV instead of this jonathon ross bollocks it would shine again.

Does my head in when they have **** like Only Way is Essex/Ant and Dec/X Factor/Take Me Out etc

If the man who invented Television saw what is put on it, I fear his reaction.

  6. The thing is, with boxing.... people WILL watch.

My phone was on fire during Froch vs Pascal and Fury vs Chisora, both were on ITV.

With a little bit of long term vision rather than cash grabbing it wouldn't take too long to bring the sport back to the masses.

There is interest, just like there is in most sports, people will pay £15 to watch Lewis vs Tyson or Hatton vs Floyd gladly, but Khan vs X or Allegedly fighter vs ''never been stopped'' they won't.

Would you walk into a Yates's packed with fitties for free, or pay £10 to enter a posh joint where there might be a few singletons kicking around?

Couldn't agree more, well apart from Prizeighter sorry bro but I’m not a fan.

I would love to become a promoter too, maybe we can be partners ;), it is something that I am definitely going to look to do in a few years but at the moment I’m only 21 so think I can take my time and put that dream on the shelf for an ickle while longer.

For me one of the problems with Boxing promotion at the moment is that the promoters are signing up too many fighters. They don’t have the TV dates they once did and don't put on enough shows to keep these newly turned pro’s active, and the promoters forget about them and struggle to find spaces on their shows for them.

They are under pressure to build these young guns into attractions, and losses early on in their career is considered to be detrimental to their development as an attraction and they just don’t get enough fights to right the wrongs of one or two bad performances. Because of this environment Boxers, Managers, Trainers and Promoters are no longer as ambitious as they once were and they do not want to take the risks they once did.

I think there is a market for a promoter who doesn’t look to sign amateurs and only signs a select few established fee agent pro fighters who are at cross roads in their career and takes chances with them and makes fights that give them the opportunity to get into title contention rather than fight fight as a either a B side or in six/eight round keep busy fights.

Hay I hate my job, FTM if you’re reading this and still have that position available I’ll take it :good

Tyson Fury’s viewing figures on Channel 5 show that Boxing can be attraction with exciting fighters with good personalities, fingers crossed Mick Hennessy can get another fighter that can main event on 5 and pull in solid figures.

But somehow I think that deep down you can live with that :) Seriously, I wish that I had enough money to set up a fighters collective, a sort of modern day gladiators promotion company without having to make money. Every fight evenly matched and the best fighting the best, it won't happen, its never happened....but more power to you Jeff for having the balls to potentially kick the man who might feed you in the slot. Great piece BTW :deal

'fish eyes' criticising another promoters matchmaking is laughable.

It's a tough one thinking about in an ideal world the best way to run boxing isn't it?

Like you say it would be amazing to have the best fighters fighting the best all the time - with great match-ups every month, but when it comes to those top, top fighters - it would probably result in shorter careers by a good few fights - if fighters are going life and death every time out, it would put a lot of mileage on very quickly.

I feel a bit perverse writing that. I'm not an Allegedly PR monger!

All about getting the balance right I guess, think someone might have said that here or in another thread.

If losing a few fights here and there became the norm, fighters at the top might be able to dust themselves off and deal with it better rather than losing it as is sometimes the case a la Pavlik.
