Don't forget, Ward headbutting Kessler into submission. It's a disgrace he was given a Technical decision, he should have been DQ'd!

Greatest in terms of achievement at the weight, yes. For now, though Ward will soon better him.

Greatest in terms of ability at the weight? Obviously not. Peak RJJ dominates Calzaghe. The best version of Toney, the current version of Ward, and arguably some other fighters (Dirrell, McClellan, Bute, Benn, Eubank etc) had better skillsets and/or would've put him to the sword.

    :deal Bingo!

Also, the fact that Slappy wasn't even on HBO while other U.K. based fighters like Lewis, Hamed, and Hatton were regularly should also show that Slappy was fighting substandard opposition.

Fighters make the titles not the other way around u tool bag.:patsch:patsch:lol::lol:

Calzaghe took them all on ended his career with $ / faculties intact and undefeated, beating some great legends along the way.

Calzaghe is not only the best 168lb fighter. The guy made the division what it is today. Just like Holly made CW>

46-0 deal with it. There is no blue print, none.

    Thread ended right there.

I'd say what he said was accurate to an extent. Calzaghe was sort of intrumental in making the wbo belt more acceptable. I would add that had he not finally unified, the 8 or 9 years he spent with strictly the wbo would have been practically meaningless. I would also say that he didn't qualify Calzaghe's wins over those legends.

I'd say Joe is the greatest super middleweight ever. He has done more at the weight than some of the other historically great SMW's including Eubank, Benn, Ottke, Kessler, Watson, Toney, Jones Jr. (I don't think he would beat him in a h2h matchup in his prime but that's an argument for another day) etc.

However SMW is not a division that was loaded with true ATGs like say Heavyweight, Welterweight or Lightweight, so there isn't a whole lot of talent to choose from. I also feel within a few years or sooner Ward has a great chance to surpass Joe at the rate he is going, as much as some may or may not like it. lets compared some of they greatest wins and accomplishments at SMW shall we:

    Calzaghe

    • Kessler (Undefeated, Unification bout)
    • Eubank
    • Reid
    • Woodhall
    • Lacy (Undefeated and huge favorite)
    • Bika
    • Mitchell
    • 20+ Defenses of his SMW belt (plus unification)
    • Undefeated in 46 fights

Notes: Being undefeated that long and defending you title is amazing anyway you slice it, reguardless on whether or not you feel the division is weak. At the time he fought Lacy, Jeff was the huge favorite and Joe dominated him like no other (and no people lets not act like we knew that Lacy would get dominated like this, and Joe's win is worthless) so it was a real great win at the time. Joe also beat a undefeated Kessler and that counts for something (and no people the Kessler that Ward fought was not shot).

    Ward

    • Kessler (Was not shot and was the favorite)
    • Bika
    • Froch (Unification bout)
    • Abraham
    • Green
    • Miranda
    • Super Six Winner (The gauntlet featured just about every top SMW not named Bute and he still has plently of time to fight him before his career is done)

So as you can see the accomplishments between the two are close and that's saying alot considering Ward is only 27 and in his prime. If he beats Bute and/or Dirrell and have a few strings of solid wins in this division he should either surpass or be within inches of Joe.

He would've beaten Jones AND Hopkins any time in their careers lol? This is the thought process of a mad man. Jones would've just used his speed and athleticism to make Calslappy look like a damn fish out of water, and B-Hop would have just put on a damn boxing clinic.

Very easy to find who did the ducking, just takes some digging. Calzaghe haters are typically American, not surprising the fat lazy ****s don't know the truth.

Well, Calzaghe has made me and many others eat their words, he is much better than I gave him credit for, but there is a caveat, somethingis missing before I bestow greatness on him, Bika, for instance, gave him a bad night, and he has struggled when he won close decisions, but he was so bloody busy he was difficult to ignore, and hey, he finished unbeaten, how many do that!
