Louis is definitely one of the best p4p fighters ever but Robinson was the best, I rank Louis 2nd behind Ali at HW as well.

You're going to find off colored remarks on just about every website you go on, burt... Its a matter of taking the good with the bad, when chatting on internet forums... Acknowledge the posts you like while ignoring the others.

MM this politically correct nonsense as "he didn't need to tuck it[ BBC ]
between his legs and do as he was told" crap, has no darn place on a boxing forum... If someone repeats this anything goes baloney without being challenged, it becomes gospel...Not the first time P has put his darn
politics of guilt and "OPPRESSION" in the ESB forum. See ya...

Pound for pound is pretty mythical, it was first used in the case of S.R. Robinson to showcase his greatness as the lower weights were so highly regard so writers, promoters conjured up the hype.

A bit like weight divisions, rather than have 5,6 or 7 classes we have 17...really dilutes the sport and makes a mockery of competition.

thankyou burt, i am forever explaining that deliberately getting beaten up for 7 rounds(including any number of headshots) is as dumb as it comes, but i think people get caught up because it rhymes.
I prefer louis to ali because of the textbook style vs ali's sometimes inneffective style.

Ali won every round against Foreman on my card. He was certainly leading when he knocked Foreman the **** out.

beaten up not beaten on cards. I love watchin ali but so much that he did was not smart. I like boxers who either had boxing brains or listened to those that did. i cant see any reason to deliberately take punishment, unless it was the only way for him to win, in which case he cant be considered the best can he. I watched it again to make sure but i still don't get why rope a dope is famous for any other reason than the rhyme. I don't want to mock ali's illness but it would not be a suprise to anyone who seen rope a dope.

    K,finally a poster who get's it...Ali had to employ the rope-a-dope because
he was tiring, and he did not hit hard enough to hold some opponents off him, so with this in mind he used this method, hoping for his opponent to "punch himself out", whilst Ali took hard shots on his head and occasionally flurrying...He was a showman first and formost, which got him points
with his fancy foot movements. The difference between the welterweight Ray Robinson and Clay/Ali was Robinson could take a man's head off, and Ali, never had Robinson's vicious punching combinations.
George Foreman was the perfect foil for Ali, with his ponderous swings, that many punches missed their mark. Ali knew if he just avoided the wide swinging Foreman ,after awhile big George woukd run out of stamina and be an ooen target for Ali... Can you piucture Ali doing the rope-a-dope with the prime Joe louis, who NEVER wasted a punch, and was as dangerous in the last round as in the first round...

I think the dope in this instsnce was Ali, he took hundreds of murderous unnecessary blows in Zaire, his trainer must have been shitting bricks at this madness, you only had to see the dents in the heavybag when George was at work to figure out the damage he would do to a human body, Ali did not have to be half beaten to death for us to know how tough he was, the fact he won is irrelevant, it was crazy boxing and laughed at the notion of hitting and not being hit.
