Vitali Klitschko says he'll show no mercy

NO LAUGHING MATTER: World heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (L) shares a joke with Britain's Dereck Chisora at a promotion for their title fight.

World heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko says he is preparing for next month's title bout with Britain's Dereck Chisora as if it were his last. Not that the 40-year-old Ukrainian expects it to be anything of the sort. Chisora, whose promoter Frank ****** could be accused of considerable understatement in describing the confident 28-year-old as a "huge underdog", takes on the WBC champion in Munich on February 18. The Briton, who has no titles to his name, produced plenty of fighting talk at a news conference in a London hotel ballroom on Monday when he predicted he would fell Klitschko in the eighth round and revive interest in a division dominated by the 'boring' brothers.

Chisora warned Klitschko not to 'chicken out' like younger brother Vladimir, the WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight champion who has twice pulled out of scheduled title bouts with him due to injury."He and his brother have killed the sport I love," declared the Londoner, who described himself as a 'Black Plague' ready to destroy the man who boasts a Phd in sports science and the nickname 'Dr Ironfist'."You know what, I am going to whip his ass," grinned 'Del Boy', whose record is 17-2-0, from inside a hooded top.

Vitali, smartly turned out and carrying himself like the politician he also is, studiously brushed off the trash talk with the weary look of a man who has seen and heard it all before and has tired of play-acting for the cameras. "You are landing on the floor in round number six," he informed Chisora. "I know it will be a big fight. I know he will be hungry and motivated," added the Ukrainian, who has a 43-2-0 career record with 40 knockouts. "That's why I chose you."

Klitschko, who said he felt like a youngster of 25 and spars with much younger opponents, indicated retirement was still some way off even if he had no intention of beating George Foreman's record of being a champion at 45. "Every fight can be the last fight and I prepare for every fight as if it's the last of my career," he said. "We decide step by step." However, he acknowledged that he still had unfulfilled dreams to achieve in the ring.

"I have a dream to fight (Britain's former WBA world champion) David Haye, but we are miles away from making the contract because it is so difficult to talk to David Haye and his lawyers," he said. "He thinks he is world champion."I hope it is a fight coming true."

Asked whether he would go on after 2012, the year his country co-host the European soccer championship with Poland, Klitschko smiled while also weaving around a direct response."I had a dream that we would build for Euro 2012 a big stadium in Ukraine...in Germany 60,000 people are coming to the stadium. I am more than sure that if the fight was in Ukraine the stadium will be full," he said."It's one of my dreams to fight in my home country, in Kiev, to make a great match. Let's see. One day the dream comes true."

    Same comment as other thread:

Its pretty much common knowledge that they are probaly going to fight in the summer. Haye finally admitted that they were in negotiations, and that he was interested. Its generally thought that he just wanted more training time.

What I am curious about is where does Vitaly go after that? If Huck can pull off an upest against Povetkin, he has stated that he wants Vitaly, and that will become a natural fight. If Povetkin wins, he will avoid the Klits until he is forced to fight Wlad for the WBA Super Duper championship, and its hard to see where Vitaly goes to.

I hope a good opponent turns up for the big guy after he beats Chisroa and Haye. Who knows, maybe one of these young guys will become a super contender, Ibeabucchi will get out of jail, whatever. Its just hard to see at this point what interesting fights are left after Haye.

well considering its probably best when fighting someone and the goal is to knock out or win by points....showing mercy would not be a good mentality for a fighter to have

Vitali never shows mercy, he was even nice to his fishing buddy briggs but didnt hold back on fight night when he was destroying him, he even increased his output to get him stopped nearly killing him.

I agree with this, its very dangerous to show mercy on an opponent, its risky to not try to finish him.
Its classy though but to make sure you get the W its better to have killer instinct.

I'm a big fan of Vitali as a boxer, but recognise he is a sadistic S.O.B. He'll enjoy every second of the beating he hands out to Chisora, and definitely not lose any sleep if Del Boy ends up in the same condition as Brigg's did.

i know its the norm ..but why bother wid the trash talk ..." im gonna knock him out " ," he boring " "he dont know what he letting himself in for" " Im the real test for him" ...
We hear that ish every time ..and NO ONE even attempts it ..they all come in and do the same thing ...eat jab and run out of ideas ..and thats by the end of round one !! ..

Im not a Big Klits Bros fan ..but i hold them in very high esteem ... at the moment they are the best ..and despite all the hopefuls no one has shown me different ..

Chisora is a good fighter ..but thats it ..good !! look at the list of the defeated ..They could beat Chisora ..stay Humble ..stay focussed ..and do your best ..thats all we as Boxing Fans wanna respect ..your best !!

Learn from Haye's mistake ... Dont let your mouth write a check your ass cant cash !!!!

in his last fight Del Boy showed good head and body movement, just like Kevin Johnson, with the difference that Safety-Pin came in to not get KTFO'ed, while Del Boy will give it all he's got, but unforunately he'll go down trying, his come foward style is ideal for Vitali, the fact that he's slick won't make too much of a difference, but I hope I'm wrong and Chisora comes out and gives Vitali the fight of his life

Vitali wouldn't show mercy to a crippled puppy with cancer if it were in the ring with him.

That article puts a rather negative spin on what was a good-natured & amusing press conference.

Everyone thinks Vitali is easy to beat until they get into the ring with him and the fight starts...........................Vitali can go 12 hard rounds without any trouble, has a granite chin, great defense, has great speed, great timing, can punch extremely hard whenever he decides to do such, very accurate puncher, lots of top experience, not only in boxing but as a kickboxer, six time world champion, both amateur and pro, great amateur record in boxing as well. Vitali loves to fight, he enjoys it..................can also fight on the inside if he needs to......................
