hard fighter to fight was bodell, a southpaw the waist down orthy the waist up. head way up in the air, thn when you throw he is a quarter meter out of range. swadlincote wasn't a renowned place for training fighters.
Gardner sucked, but he was not lower than Dunn... Pearce maybe, but Gammer, Currie, Meade, Ferris and McAlinden, they truly sucked.
even Bodel was not that bad. bodel KO'd Levi Forte in 2 rounds years before Forte took Foreman the distance. Jack bodel beat rated fighters maual ramos and joe bugner. Bodel also knocked out bob stalings who beat mac Foster, earnie shavers and went the distance with ron Lyle.
Apologies to the thread starter, but my memories of Dunn were as one of the most undistinguished and undeserved HW title challengers I'd ever seen.
Knew his niece, MASSIVE TITS. He fell off a building site where he was working on constructing a sports centre breaking both his legs. They named the Richard Dunn sports centre after him
well with that new information he's just moved up 294 places in my all-time HW ratings. (he now stands at 34,206th just behind Kip Kane) yes, i've heard of the sports centre. But didnt know the story behind it.
Re Jack Bodell - The time of the Muhammad Ali - Rocky Marciano computer fight being shown being shown in Britain, early 1970. Those who have seen it will remember that the background to the ring they were fighting in was a black backdrop with no crowd. At the press screening of it,some wag commented "That's some crowd. Jack Bodell must have been on the bill" !! Cruel, but funny
Ali was barnstorming and lollygagging vs Dunn and got him out fairly early. First thing Dunn doz in the post fight interview is ask for a rematch!! Yes he had pluck!!
apparently Ali wrote "Ali wins" and "round 5" inside his gloves before the fight, and gave them to Mickey Duff straight after the fight to auction for chris Finnegan who had retired after losing half his sight. thats the story Duff told anyway.
