The Super middleweight division is looking very weak.
Just look at The Rings current top 10

    CHAMPION: Andre Ward

    1. Lucian Bute
    2. Mikkel Kessler
    3. Carl Froch
    4. Robert Stieglitz
    5. Sakio Bika
    6. Thomas Oosthuizen
    7. George Groves
    8. Glen Johnson
    9. Arthur Abraham
    10. James DeGale
Bute and Ward really need to meet to decide who is the top dog of the division.

Look at the division from 5-10. Not one of them have done anything in the division. G Johnson was a journeyman when he first tried to compete at SMW and has lost more SMW fights than hes won and Oousthuizen, Groves and DeGale may go on to do good things but in the previous eras would never have made the top 10 on what they have done just yet.
Heres an old post from 2010 but you get the idea
Just browsing the years and not looking closely, I can see several but 2005, clearly is stronger than today with
    1. Calzaghe undefeated world champ
    2. Kessler undefeated world champ (undefeated and not suffering double vision)
    3. Lacy undefeated world champ (undefeated, and tell me an active American SMW with a better resume)
    4. Beyer (3 time WBC champ)
    5. Mundine (2 time WBA champ)
    6. Danny Green now a world rated CW
    7. Siaca (former world champ)
    8. Grant (former WBO MW champ)
    9. Reid (former world champ, and fighter that looked unlucky against Ottke)
    10. Andrade (undefeated at this time and looked unlucky not to KO Bute years later)

I think that clearly proves a point when now in the top 10, you have Andrade still who has been beaten 3 times now, Magee who was put down 3 times and beaten by 2005 #9 Reid, Steiglitz who lost to Andrade, Arthur with limited SMW resume of Miranda and Taylor coming off a KO, Bika who lost to Soliman, Froch who was beaten by #2 of 2005, Dirrell who lost to Froch. Kessler of now who Ward beat and who beat Froch wasnt even well and suffering double vision, and Bute nearly KOd by already beaten 2005 #10.

Consider how years ago Calzaghe beat current #2 Kessler and current #5 Bika yet they still sit in the top 5 and Bika hasnt done much since, it shows with Bika just how weak the division is and that the current champs big win is the #2 beaten by the previous era.

I hope Bute and Ward get it on so the division can build again

Its not had the name before due to Americans not having a good world champ until recently. It got atention when many felt Lacy was going somewhere and The S6 hyped up the division even though it wasnt at its best then.
Just look at the 2005 era I highlighted for example, it was far stronger.

If he beats Bute you can say that he pretty much cleaned up, until then he has just beaten leftovers

It's looking great, Oosthuizen, Degale and Groves are great talent so the division is probably gonna stay strong.

Lol you wish, Dirrell or Bute will **** him up.

What have Oosthuizen, Degale and Groves done to really ******t being in the top 10. All 3 are great talents and Im a fan of all 3, but they are far from top 10 material for what they have done so far at SMW.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------
G Johnson, well his SMW resume isnt good at all

In 14 SMW fights Johnson has lost 8 of them.
Johnson has lost at SMW to -

M Sosa who had 5 losses and 2 draws, and lost his next 2 fights after beating Johnson
Kiwanuka who had 3 losses and 2 draws, had lost his last 2 fights coming into his fight with Johnson and his fight after Johnson
Ottke 16-0 who in fairness was an outstanding SMW boxer
Vanderpool 27-1 who lost his next fight, but in fairness that was at MW to Hopkins and Vanderpool had a good run after
Branco 38-4-2 who was a world class SMW and became WBA LHW champ
Sheika who was 19-1 and lost his next fight, though in fairness that was to Calzaghe.
    Froch
    Bute

The SMWs that Johnson has managed to beat
Campas 3-20-4 coming off of only 2 losses and won his next fight
Watson 24-16-1, Johnson was his last fight
Renteria 9-23-5 coming in, whos last 10 fight record before facing Johnson was 0-8-2
Zimmerman 15-2-0 coming in, who had lost his previous fight and the one after
A Green 29-2-0 coming in and Johnsons biggest SMW victory

Its not impressive now is it. Please spare me the robbery talk.
If any rated SMW losses to Johnson it wont look good on their resume

To think beating Green was all Johnson had to do to become a Ring rated SMW in todays ratings
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------
A Abraham has a win over Taylor coming off of a KO loss and lost to Dirrell, Froch and Ward
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------
Bika - Who did he beat and when?

Tell me how its not weak

Im a big fan of Oosthuizen, Degale and Groves and bet on Groves to beat DeGale, though it wasnt a comfy bet. So I agree the division will pick up. But as it stands, Groves big win is DeGale, DeGales over the Polish European champ and Oousthuizens is arguably lesser than theirs. Although they may all come to be the next big thing, they wouldnt have made the top 10 for what they have done so far a few years ago

Its the strongest its been in years .And certainly much stronger than when Joe was atop of it !

    Ward WBA and WBC champ
    Froch 2 time former champ
    Kessler 2 time former champ
    Bute Current IBF champ

Then you got the bottom 6 ..Abraham shouldn't even be ranked since he's going back down to middle ..

And all these guys are fighting each other ! Lets end this troll thread now !:bart
