Should Bennie Briscoe make the hall of fame?

He had fame in his period, and is a popular figure. So yes he should of been in there. Sadly if/when it happens, it will not be with him present.

I too, used to get all excited and hot under the collar when I saw a McGuigan et al go in, but I got over it. And to be honest, it does no harm, indeed it is a rare thing in the sport, a positive news story.

Yes, it does not always award greatness, but it does not claim to, it is a Hall of FAME.

Every boxing person who goes to their induction seems to have an amazing time. And it is by all accounts a brilliant few days for many boxing fans who go there.

 

It doesn't really mean all that though does it? I agree it's nice and must feel rewarding to thee person being inducted...but I'm pretty meh on it.

Like I never say a fighter is better for beating how many HOFers they have. I don't mind who gets in really, I just don't think it's as important an achievement as some make it out to be.

 

Are Hamed, Eubank or Benn HOF worthy?

They very popular and achieved some good results.

 

I would agree you cannot use it as an argument to show a fighter is great. But I would also suggest that for 95%+ of those who have been inducted, it is satisfying and is important. It recognizes them for their achievements, which granted are not always great. But take McGuigan, he did sell out Loftus Road, Kenilworth Road and Kings Hall (many times), and was a household name in Britain and the Island of Ireland for years, which helped the sport in Britain an awful lot.

 

Yes, they need some solid substance in there, and Briscoe is as solid as you can get.

 

For what? Being a top contender?

 

For being a tough son of a *****, who gets a ton of kudos for being a Philly icon, and amongst the true boxing fancy, like your good self...

Surely to truly be hardcore and pay his dues; a boxer should die penniless, but get a thread on the Classic Forum that gets read by almost 20 people, with 3 posts to boot?
