I'm not sure if Bernard would've won or lost a match with Ray, but his ring intelligence is top notch. Ray would probably win with sheer volume and being active, but Hop is a problem for anybody. Boxing fundamentals goes a long way

Ray's fundamentals were just as good and he blows Hopkins out of the water p4p.

that said Hopkins wins a close decision at mw

Ray wins a close but clear decision. He would outwork Bernard, flashy combinations which would rack up points, Bernard isn't stopping Ray, and isn't outworking him to win a decision. (Hagler > Hopkins)

Ray's ring intelligence is just as top notch in my opinion. He worked out a way to deal with Hearns who is by all means a destroyer and an enigma at Welterweight, he adjusted brilliantly to Duran and changed his style completely to deal with him, and he knew exactly how to catch the judges eyes against Hagler to pull out a win over one of the most complete boxer/punchers and best southpaws of modern times.

I think Ray has the size to not be overmatched by Hopkins at middleweight, and has the right style to beat Bernard by a close decision. Not a slight on Hopkins's H2H abilities, I just think he doesn't match up well with what Ray brings to the table.

I don't think Leonard beats Hopkins straight up. At least not a prime, late 90s/early 00s Hopkins.

Leonard has the great adaptabilty and intelligence to make it a competitive fight, but a prime Hopkins was quicker on his feet, harder to tag, and just faster on the trigger than a 1987 version of Hagler. Leonard also wasn't the same stamina-wise as he had once been. This is a guy who finished strong in the FIFTEENTH round against Duran after being hammered to the body. He finished Benitez and Hearns in the 15th and 14th, respectively. He was noticeably starting to tire halfway through the Hagler bout.

Leonard was better than Hopkins, but here is a case of a great middleweight against a guy who is 5-7 years and 13 lbs. past his peak.

    Hopkins by decision.

Hopkins would make his strength count and bully Leanard towards the end of the fight i'd say 60/40 Hopkins getting a close UD.

Hopkins was a big MW, Leonard was a WW. This evens things out, but SRL still wins imo.

Hopkins only has size on SRL & Leonard is too tough to be KO`d by a man that doesnt have 1 punch power & he wont be worn down enough to be stopped late or even outpointed because he wont take as much punishment as would be necessary for that to happen.

Ray is faster, a better boxer, at least as smart & a superior athlete.

    Leonard by decision.
