Think its unfair to call this era bad when champions were like the above.

 

I always wondered what kicking the medicne ball routine did ..Until I tried it ..People have to realize where some of the training techniques came from ,they were fine tuned from fighters like this ..

 

Joe Louis for me was the stand out fighter before 1960...




Really we should have two lists, before 1960, and after...thats the cut off point-

 

Joe Louis was something special ..I have no doubt Louis would have beat Rocky and Dempsey in their primes

I feel bad for that heavy bag

Notice the diffrence when Tyson hits the bag he keeps his guard up ,when Dempsy does he keeps his hands down ..

 

lol still thats just tyson

Dempsey struggled with a 5.ft6 fat **** thyroid disease suffering Meehan, got ktfo in 1 round by a bum.

Louis lost to a washed Schmelling got decked by a Butterbean lookalike Galento and Braddock, and got his ears boxed off by a small lightheavy.

Marciano barely fought someone who could genuinely qualify as a HW.

 

Nobody ever attacked the heavy bag as fierce as Tyson did.

He was also a beast on the pads

 

I like what Dempsey was doing, swinging the bag forward and hitting it on the way down. He's training his power and also his timing

 

Even though he wasn't a particularly big guy, the Rock looked strong as a bull.

 

I was told to never do that. You're taking a chance on breaking your wrist and also you should be learning to step around the bag when it's coming at you and then getting off shots from an angle. That's also how you get cardio in your heavy bag workout, stepping and throwing.

 

Makes sense. I like it though it's different. I used to do stupid **** like that, I once had a bag I just kept filling with crap until it turned rock hard and was over 200lbs. It was like punching a tree, I loved it. Never felt stronger, but yeah I;d hurt my hands occasionally.

 

People recommend hitting while the bag moves so that you can maintain accuracy against a moving target, instead of always relying on a purely stationary bag.
