Dangerous bout for Mayweather, no matter what anyone says IMO. Kirkland is a big guy, not the most skilled, but he's a big, come forward boxer with power.
Mayweather got paid more for Baldomir than he was offered for Margarito so yes, he turned down a career high payday for a bigger one
That's what Mayweather claimed to save face, Goosen never confirmed it and kept the actual figure hushed. Arum offered 10mil for the Margarito fight, I doubt Floyd made more than 10mil for Baldomir.
Arum offered 8 million for Margarito and it wasn't just Mayweather who said he made more money. Plus Baldomir was the lineal champ and opened the door for the Oscar De La Hoya fight. If Floyd fought Margarito, he would have never got the oppurtuinity to fight Oscar. Easy decision really
Kirkland needs a version of the 154 pound title to make the fight more marketable. It would be an entertaining spectacle.
HBO released the PPV numbers for Mayweather-Baldomir at 325K, he didn't make close to 8 mill and he certainly didn't need to beat Baldomir to earn a shot at DelaHoya. A Margarito fight was alot bigger back then than Baldomir who was still seen a just a journeyman level fighter who pulled an upset over Judah.
He was guaranteed 8 million and earned extra from ppv. 325K is actually a pretty good number. Only David Haye, Klit bros, Mayweather, Pac and Cotto can get over that nowadays. Plus yes, Baldomir as lineal champ. And if Floyd fought Margo, he's have to resign with Top Rank. Bob Arum himself said he didn't want to make the Oscar fight so he allowed Floyd to buyout his contract.
Floyd's handspeed would find Kirkland at will-Kirkland would look amatuer at times-Floyd is precise with his punches....A SHARP SHOOTER-....SHARP SHOOTERS DON'T NEED TO HIT HART-THEY JUST NEED TO BE PRECISE WITH THEIR PUNCHES AND SPOT ON WITH THEIR REFLEXES-Good defense also helps. Floyd KO in 4 maybe 5...He'd find that weak chin.
