ESPN's just trying to stop The UFC train.. That's all there is.. Anyone poster with any credibility will give their take on the ESPN edit and full interview recorded by The UFC. As much **** as Scrula talks about The UFC.. He can't help but follow the matchups
I'll be the first to admit that it is a monopoly, and they only deny it because they have too.. Fact is.. Zuffa does it better than anyone else, and has brought Mixed Martial Arts to mainstream television and the forefront of combat sports. For these reasons alone, anyone who calls themselves a fan should be appreciative of the matchups they deliver.
I'm an MMA fan. If i didn't like the UFC i wouldn't buy their merchandise, go to their Expo's or attend any of their events. But i call **** as i see it. Mofo's don't like that too f'in bad.
Fair enough.. I talk a little trash, but respect every opinion given by us posters that make this section go round' If it weren't for you're objectivity, I wouldn't know the onset of my own beliefs :thumbsup
What's that got to do with anything? They're sportsmen. And as sportsmen you'd expect them to be earning a significant wage that is clearly not comparable to the salary of an ordinary person and neither worthy of such a comparison.
For me that's not the problem, it's the training camp, the sparring partner, all the people that helps the fighter, they all need to be paid decently too !
They are competing in a sport that's not even as big as bodybuilding, remember? If a guy has no name, no fanbase, does not drive any ticket sales, has no career accomplishments of note, is not particularly skilled, and is essentially completely interchangeable with dozens of other guys, why should he be earning hundreds of thousands of dollars per year? :hat
...But why? ESPN are onboard with UFC, aren't they? They're airing the PPV's in the UK and they do some shitty weekly segment, right? ...Dumb.
No. Fox is onboard with the UFC in a HUGE way. They are starting their seven-year, $700-million deal with the UFC next month. Fox is very serious about pushing the UFC into the mainstream. They have made a massive investment in it. So ESPN is attacking its competitor with a hatchet job, simple as that. :good :hat
Oh I see, I just figured they were okay with them having a deal in play. Sounds like butthurt from ESPN.
Here it is.. I have things to do so I'll give my take sometime later on.. Yes, I watched, but couldn't absorb it all as I have things to do. To be honest, I expected a bit more bias from ESPN, but Dana is Dana. Remember, The UFC has stated that they will release the interview in full in the near future http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2012/1/15/2709125/espn-ufc-video-fighter-pay-outside-the-lines-otl-lorenzo-fertitta-ken-shamrock
meltzer did a piece on this whole thing too which I think is more informative than the espn show http://sports.yahoo.com/mma/news?slug=dm-meltzer_ufc_fighter_pay011312
Who is to say that can't get another career as a trainer or coach after they have retired from fighting.
Thanks for sharing, and welcome to the forum. The topic is so draining.. I'll re-read, look into this some more, and give my piece tomorrow.
