I find it interesting though that this has obviously gotten to him enough for him to rewatch the fight and comment on it, I wonder if Wards 0 and shine is starting to get to JC a bit lol.... JC coming back to try and reclaim 168 (being that he is its former king) is highly intreaguing..... would love to see Ward vs JC granted a tune up for JC that has him looking ok.
Calzaghe has got to be pissed that Ward has appeared so soon after he left, demolished Kessler much worse than he did, and has walked through all the best competition at 168, resulting in talk of Ward being greater than he was. Ward would embarrass Calzaghe at this point. I hope Joe has the sense to resist the urge to have a SRL v Camacho moment.
Agreed. And, if he came back now it would be an indication that Joe's money wasn't being invested well or he was letting his extracurricular habits run amuck. He has exited with his health and that is a rare accomplishment. However, one can't help but say that if we ignore Joe's own benefit/detriment for a moment we could note that such a return fight would sure be a good education for his most obtuse lovestruck fan boys/men to make them understand the relevance of age in athletic competition. Such a comprehensive loss would immediately produce the "well, Joe is far far past his prime ....." argument which is exactly what any person who has watched BHOP since his career began would know about his relative talents in judging BHOP from the late 90s vis-a-vis 2008 at 43+ years of age against Calz, or 2005 at 40/41 years of age against Taylor. The 40 - 43+ year old version of the fighter who fought them close (split decision, split decision, all disputed decisions) WOULD have stomped them out in his physical prime [as it was evident that even in his old age he was more talented and skilled than these fighters but lacking in the necessary youth to overcome the younger fighter's or relatively younger fighter's energy and work rate (something that BHOP from the 90s had in spades)].
This. I think it holds true for Joe's whole philosophy - better to remain unbeaten than take a risk and lose - he would never have agreed to fight Ward anyway if they were in the same generation. The only risk Joe EVER took was Kessler - although I dont mean to undermine the risk to health he took everytime he stepped into the ring of course. Important to point out that Ward is already on the way to unifying the title and beating the best at 27, whereas Joe took 10 years out before he tried. Ward will have outshone Joe Calzaghe come 2013. Not however knocking Joes obvious swarming-style ability and outstanding fitness and supoerlative commitment to building a legacy,which make him a legend at SM at least until we get more history in the division and more Wards etc come along.
and some of them were nearly 43 years old too lol. Personally I'd be embarrasssed accepting a World title fight with a grandfather, and I'd certainly not pretend it was a great victory. That was one of Calzaghes biggest failures - showboating in front of a shot Roy Jones showed he his twitt(er)ish attributes for all to see. You cant imagine a real champ like Holmes doing that against a diseased Ali. Although, I must add, I'd probably get Knocked The **** out by my grandad, mind you.
Currently with the exception of Dirrell, I dont think theres any SMW's that can touch Ward. Calzaghe prime would be interesting, although Calzaghe would take a UD. I doubt Joe's considering a comeback, just giving an opinion and everyone just jumping to conclusions. Joe hasnt exactly stayed fit and his lifestyle out of the ring hasnt exactly helped. No way Joe comes back...Come on Dirrell sort yourself out and whoop Ward ass!!
That's because it took all of 1 year to pretty much unify the titles much quicker than Joe and by fighting much better comp ..All he will have is title defenses ..But the only way Ward breaks that record is if he fights a bunch of no names super middles who have been in the division for more than 2 yrs so people like Bailey can give him credit
Why you Brits gotta always drag Calzaghes old dusty ass up and throw him out there like hes a real superstar. Granted, he beat the dog **** outta Lacey but thats it.Other than that hes just your regular B class British boxer.
