I've heard him praise Pac many times. But Atlas is constantly trying to get people to look backwards into history to get the bigger picture. He's not a guy that goes for knee-jerk histrionics like Max Kellerman or getting carried away in proclaiming the next best thing as the greatest thing ever.
Atlas got Michael Grant KO'd by bums... now he's turning Povetkin into a Club Fighter... Atlas instills his insecurities into his fighters, makes them doubt themselves... doubt your abilities in boxing and soon you'll be looking up at the referee :yep
What's the fight where Atlas pulled out his cell phone and told his fighter that his son is calling and wants to know why you're quitting?:rofl
atlas on lil floyds pay roll atlas saw brian kenny punk lil floyd so atlas decided to be the white boy who scratchs lil floyds nutts atlas just butt hurt cuz he always picked manny to lose only to see manny whoop ass
Moorer vs Holyfield...Convincing testimony that Jim Carey would be perfect to play him in any movies...
Atlas is a total drama queen...He can give some really good insight, but then when the conversation switches to a guy he has a grudge with, which is most guys in general, he starts sounding like a bitter ex-girlfriend...
To add to this old thread: I've read somewhere here that when Pac was looking for a trainer back in 2001, Pac approached Teddy Atlas in San Francisco where Teddy was training at the time. Atlas wasn't interested in Pac, or any boxer near his weight division for that matter. Pac headed to Los Angeles and met with Freddie Roach. The rest is history.
That is not true when Pac came to the US Roach was the only trainer that saw something special in Pac everybody else passed on him. Your info is bull ****...
And it's illogical. The guy insists Pacquiao must move up to prove himself against Martinez, using Duran, Leonard, Hearns fighting Hagler as examples, ignoring that Manny has already moved up twice the number of divisions they had. He does not make such demands on Floyd and gives him a free pass with his underwhelming welter resume. And training Povetkin he made him turn down a title shot vs Klitschko and then jumped at the chance to pick up a fake paper belt. How the hell does this hating douche-bag hypocrite keep his job at ESPN? Probably only because execs and producers are worried he'll go on a shooting rampage at ESPN if they ever did fire him.
