Carl Froch: Most overrated fighter of the last 5 years?

Outside the 1 fight he had in Notingham he fought the rest of his bouts on the road ..Show the man some dam RESPECT !

 

He shows about the same respect that Carl is.

 

I don't see where people rate him highly enough to overate him really, check the polls on here, he was a big underdog to lose to Ward, and rightly so. He's regarded as a limited warrior who gives it his all on the road, he has a fantastic resume for his skillset and has probably overachieved in the sport.

Yeah lets diss the guy who fight challenges b2b and travels all over the world, its better to fight in your backyard rather than take risks!
Froch despite having obvous flaws is a warrior and a great representative of the sport.

If people like him, they like him.

He got this far with his talent. I give him props. Good resume. Taylor gassed, that's on Taylor, just the way the cookie crumbles.

His style against Kessler, type of fight that will always be close.

I don't care if a fighter fights for a vacant title, any fighter would go for it.

Showed us against AA that he doesn't have to go to war all the time, but that he can be disciplined, had a good jab and mixed combo's well. Props to him.

 

Froch KOed Jermain Taylor in his home country the USA, and defeated Jean Pascal, Glen Johnson and Andre Dirrell.

Froch may not be the most skilled etc etc but no way is he overated. Already people pointed out he is good for boxing, it makes a change in this era to see a fighter make no excuses and not duck anyone. Hes a class act. True profeshional.

 

The most overrated fighter in recent years were Amir Khan (before Peterson) and Sergio Martinez. Max Kellerman talking about "Martinez falls under the 'superfighter' category with guys like a prime Roy Jones". He's a good fighter in a poor division/era. And as far as Khan goes, people were saying "he's a future great, a serious threat to beat Mayweather, has elite skills...is a complete fighter other than his chin"

I would always just think "what the hell are you guys watching??"

But naturally, people tend to criticize him mercilessly now, because he had the audacity to actually lose a fight (oh the shame of not living up to people's unreasonable expectations):

 

He fought everyone worth mentioning in the division and the only guy left (Bute) he will fight now. He lost to Ward but was a round away from getting a draw, and his fight with Kessler could have gone either way.

The guy is a credit to the sport and will fight anyone, which is more than you can say about the top 2 p4p fighters in the world.

 

No, not over-rated. He perhaps over-achieved given that he's not particularly slick or speedy, but he should be admired for that. His last fight at home was against Dirrell, an opponent who did nothing for most the fight other than flop around the canvas like a fish out of water, and run away with his arms in the air. The 'blown up super' you refer to (technically a blown-up MIDDLE, but never mind) still managed to knock Dirrell on his ass and allegedly inflicted 'crippling' neurological impairment upon him(!).

To put another spin on it; Froch first won the title against a guy who'd go on to become champ at 175, he never gave up against Taylor and ground him down. He then lost a competitive fight when travelling abroad as champ (Ward, Bute, take note!) after suffering travel disruptions due to a VOLCANO, before regaining the title against an opponent many thought would stop Froch due to Froch's perceived inability to avoid a tear-up. Froch put on a punch-perfect performance and surprised his critics. He beat a durable and experienced operator in Johnson, only to lose to an Olympic gold medalist in the FINAL of the tournament Bute wouldn't even enter.

When it's put THAT way it doesn't seem half as bad. Amazing what a little fine-tuning can achieve, eh?
