Saad Muhammad. Rags to riches to rags and never ever easy. Didn't that one special figure out his real name was Maxwell Loach, when he was dropped off at that street corner?

A good job could be done w/ Yaqui Lopez. Being born under a bullfight ring and all the things he had to go through as well.

Kostya Tszyu. From where he was born and raised to the olympics and then fighting out of Australia. He was an enigma and fought tough hombres right off the bat always giving what he had.

The most exciting movie probably would be about Carlos Monzon. Classic rags to riches story of a young boy hating life.. growing up, and taking his frustrations out in the ring. Legendary HOF career, only to be haunted by his demons that still possessed him, culminating in the death of his wife, and then finally, the last scene of him ending his life on a jail furlough by car crash, then the people of Argentina mourning, while his statue stands sky high.

Alot of good shouts i'd also add Tony Galento, a movie about him would be very amusing but if were talking rags-to-riches type film then i think a lesser known like Beau Jack deserves a nod. Had a very poor and rough upbringing and fought his way up to the top.

Btw, has anyone seen Phantom Punch i heard it's ****?

Seriously, I can't fathom the lack of a book or a movie on Monzon...it makes no sense at all.

I'd like to see a film about Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier's relationship. A balanced one, where none of them is painted purely as a saint or villain.

I think there's a Duran movie in the works, but I don't know who the preliminary pick for the lead role is.

I think one about Foreman would be awesome, his first career, then him becoming a preacher and starting a church, then running out of money and making his infamous comeback.

Mabey they could get the dude from The Green Mile to play him

I agree. He was one of the seventies best fighters.

    Yes Indeed!

The main thing about doing a docu-drama or almost pure boxing documentary with a bit of acting is getting the key historical facts of the fights and fighters done properly. This is where Michael Mann horribly failed in the Ali movie. The facts were BS as well as James Toney playing Frazier. Can't believe Angelo Dundee's character barely had any lines. Just plain wrong.

Hearns, Duran, Leonard, Hagler, Benitez and their celebrated trainers would be an amazing film for the time of these fights. I don't think the focus should be on one specific fighter, but told through the eyes of an established sports writer. Trouble with that is that you'd have to include bits of his life as well in the movie.

I would go back 30 years and do the same type of film, not focussing on one particular fighter, but maybe a story about the 60's and 70's boxing scene with Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Norton, Liston, Patterson, Quarry, Chuvalo and the importance of the FOTC. Maybe told through the eyes of Howard Cossell.

A film about Tony Galento could be interesting. Ray Arcel and Whitey Bimstein's memoirs of his career should be enough for a good film.
