DLH was a good fighter but I do not consider him a brilliant tactician.

 

Definitive proof that, hard work, the will to fight and win and you'll be successful. Right behind Whitaker as the best fighter of the 90's in my book.

Mosley also only landed 3 great punches. 2 in round 1 and 1 in round 9.

:nonoUtter Nonsense ..The fight with Quartey really showed Oscar's heart and determination ..You forget that even though Oscar was dropped in that fight he also dropped Ike in a very competitve fight ..The Trinidad fight was a clinic mnus the robberey and with Mosely he should be 1-1 ..Outside the obvious robberies he elevated his game against the best !

 

Somewhat underrated now but one of the best of his era.

Overrated in my opinion. Who the **** was Jimmy Bradahl and how the hell was he a champion? Lost all his big fights, Ike Quartay, and Sweet Pea both were robbed against ODLH.

 

I can't think of too many other guys out there who fought so many top notch fighters who were still in their prime. He won some, lost some, and a few controversial decisions...but the guy never ducked anyone!

His "style" is difficult to qualify though, because remember early on, he was always switching trainers and trying out a new style.

He was a good face for boxing; a little too scripted and insincere, but certainly brought a ton of attention to the sport which tickled down and gave a lot of other guys good exposure as a result.

 

He never won the big one. Lost to Tito, Mosley, B-Hop, Floyd, and Manny

 

Oscar is one of the best fighters ever IMO. Gold medalist, amateur record of like 200-4 before even turning pro. One of the most knowledgeable boxers and talented.

Yeah, pretty much everything about him has become overrated to some extent.

At the lower weights people choose to forget he'd miss fighting the best guys at their weight and would only fight them in the division above where he'd have a bigger size advantage.

Look at the John John Molina, Genaro Hernandez, Jesse James Leija, Miguel Angel Gonzalez fights. Pretty much his best wins in his early career. Also Troy Dorsey, a tough little FW who he KO'd in 1 at LW.

This is always overlooked when fans try to claim he'd beat all these greats at those weights. I've only heard Larry Merchant mention it in the media. Ruelas was really the only real champ he beat at 130-135, and he was dropped and hurt by Narciso Valenzuela and Giorgio Camapanella. How does that make him a great SFW and LW?

 

I guess people see his win against a strung out, old used and abused sweet pea(which was extremely close) as a "great victory"
