So in your mind its ok that Vitaly quit to a guy he was 7 and a half inches taller than, 35lbs heavier than and a former super middleweight "has-been"? :good

What do you mean by "has-been" ?..
He was a two time belt holder and a good champion, he would probably have dominated the early and mid 00's if it wasn't for the Klitschkos.. I would also favor Byrd over any HW today not named Klitschko.

Where is the hate? This is a legitimate question to a rematch that SHOULD have happened. Nobody has a problem with Wlad rematching Byrd who he had already decisively beaten. Is it wrong to have wanted to see Vitaly rematch him after a fight he had looked worse in than any before or since and ultimately quit in?

Yes, you sound upset since you're unable to back up your claims. I would be upset if I was talking out of my ass and got called on it too, bro, but you'll have to get over it, it happens :yep

Possibly, although knowing their absolute distaste for King I could very easily see Vitali dismissing the idea outright. Especially if he had to sign a piece of himself over to King as tended to be the case at the time.

Coming from another angle it's concievable that Byrd was blowing hot air. Saying you want the fight in the media doesn't necessarily mean it's so. PBF/Pac clusterfcuk is a perfect example. But Vitali has never been fond of communicating with the media which is a shame because a response would of helped us know for sure.

I find it hard to believe that Vitali was affraid to fight Byrd. He didn't lose by Blitzkrieg to a fighter he couldn't compete with. The fight was definately close enough that he could see ways to improve in a rematch and considering he was universaly panned by the media for lack of heart I'm sure he would of taken the opportunity to silence his critics.

I personally wouldn't compare Klitschko contracts to the influence King had on the division. A Klitschko fight me/fight bro contract may be a massive hurdle to climb to reach the pinnacle of the sport but King had a grip on half the division and basically did as he pleased.

Also it's interesting to note that around this time it's very clear that King's stranglehold on the division was starting to diminish. This is due, in part to the brothers, so who knows how much manouvering was going on behind the scenes?

Interesting subject and thanks for not trolling me. :good

Generally, there's a pattern with Klitschko opponents. Anyone who poses a stylistic threat for one brother, will usually be chosen by the other. Byrd certainly fits that criteria, as does Chambers, Arreola, Haye, Briggs, Ibragimov and Chagaev. I'm not saying all of them would have beaten the other brother, because they wouldn't have, but it's no mere coincidence that they are matched the way which suits them. If someone like Seth Mitchell gets a world title shot, it'll be against Vitali and if Povetkin gets a fight, it'll be against Wlad. Chisora is another who would be tougher for Wlad than he will be for Vitali.

If Pacquiao and Mayweather were brothers and fighters like Cotto, Margarito and Castillo were chosen for Pacquiao and boxers like Marquez, Morales and Corrales were chosen for Mayweather, this would obviously be unfair.

Vitali may have beaten Byrd. However, they both know Wlad would have had a better shot which is why a rematch didn't happen and yet Byrd fought Wlad twice.

Because rematch options expire fairly quickly so universum had to make Byrd-Wlad because it was unclear when Vitali would be able to fight at the time because of shoulder surgery.

Vitaly fought a month after Wlad-Byrd. Are you going to tell me if Vitaly asked Wlad to leave Byrd to him, he wouldn't have?

The only thing I take issue with is the thought that maybe Byrd was blowing hot air. Why would he rematch the brother who gave him a beating, but not the brother who he had much better success against? Other than that you wrote a very good post.

THANK YOU for a well thought out and mature post! :good

Byrd and his camp ducked the re-match. Byrd avoided many fighters in his day, that and guys like Lewis did not want to fight him because the public did not give a **** about Byrd.
