The outcome would be the same. Vitali outboxes and retires Lewis. Vitali by RTD10.

I saw the rematch where he got beat up by Holyfield and then got a gift decision. He ducked the rematch with Vitali.

He also ducked a rematch with Ray Mercer.

Holyfield is a few levels above Vitali. And Lewis did get the W over Holyfield

How did Vitali do against Byrd in the rematch?

As close as the poll-result is I would say it would have been a very close fight. Either had the tools to win.

This. Very hard to predict a winner. Anything could have happened.

A rematch would have been a moot point Lewis was on the decline and Vitali was improving.
At that point in their respective careers a fight like that was wear and tear on Lewis and invaluable experience for Vit.

As a comparison, lets say, Ali fought Holmes 2 years earlier and managed to get a very close split decision or a stoppage after being down on the cards, either way an even closely fought fight......Well any rematch we can suppose will be easier for the improving Holmes as Ali was badly declining and would be like the unfortunate spectacle of Ali/Holmes we saw.

I think it is to Vitalis advantage not rematching Lewis - He Vitali battered Lewis from pillar to post and stopped him easily, it would be clear that Lewis was shot and any respect Vitali gained for his bravery in fight 1 would be negated - Beating Lewis would be as important as Holmes beating Ali!

I hope the Klitschkos have the forsight and good sense to walk away from the sport whilst still winning in their decline and not carry on too long to the detriment of their health
