You can't really tell anything until he faces a top 50 opponent, I like his fundamentals but until he beats a high level opponent I can't rank him too high. Beating McDermott doesn't actually mean too much to me in all honesty. The same goes for Glazkov and Wilder. All 3 need to take a leaf out of Seth Mitchell's book. Seth's destruction Of Timur Ibragimov really has put him right in amongst the big time.

Surely the manner in which he beat him does though?

McDermott's previous stoppages were a bull**** one against Matt Skelton and one from exhaustion against Fury. The other stoppage on his record was from an injury, as best I can tell. He withstood Danny Williams' punches and he could crack even at that stage.

So, I'd say that, at the very least, this proves Price is a solid puncher.

Still not sold on him doing anything at World level. Even decent punchers should stop domestic level opposition, so not sold on him as the new Wlad as some are making him out to be either. He is still very stiff as well, though that's probably just him and nothing can be done about it.

Definitely one of the best domestic prospects though. Let's hope he fights more regularly and keeps up the good work. One to watch for sure, shame it's taken so long for him to 'arrive'.

MacDermott is a stern test for anyone at British level and nobody has ever dealt with him in the manner that Price did, the potential is there but it is still very early days and he is learning.

Larry is no better a test than Page IMO. He lacks the application to test Price's chin IMO.

Glad to see your opinion has changed in the last day flea man you said he was terrible a few days ago, the best is yet to come from pricey he won't be truly tested for a while IMHO coz he is a lot better than all domestic competition so needs euro/world opposition now I hope a lot of people have changed their opinions on him and get behind him now , coz he is going places no one has done a job on big John like he did last night .

I think he'll come unstuck when it becomes less of a fight and more of a boxing match. He has power but I have to wonder how he didn't strike gold when he's gifted with such reach and height, all he has to do is jab his opponent to death and rack up points.

And it was early days but Big John did hit him with everything he threw even though it was three punches. There's not enough evidence of him being limited though so if his boxing skills are up to scratch as is his chin, he'll go far.

My biggest fear about Price is that he has a horrific chin, similar to what Khan had as a lightweight or something like that. If it was that bad, it would have hindered him severely. However, he took a really good right hand off McDermott and even though it was only one shot, it was one early in the fight and it landed flush on his chin. If his chin was as bad as I have feared, I think he'd have been wobbled or even gone down off it, so that's a positive sign.

I think he's a really good fighter and it'll be interesting to see how he progresses. There is certainly some validity to the argument that it was only a British level opponent he stopped but in 2012, a British level fighter isn't far off being world class. McDermott is a better fighter than Sprott, without question, and he recently beat a top 10 ranked fighter, so that kind of puts into perspective how significant a first round stoppage is. Whilst McDermott may not be great, there aren't many fighters in the world who would beat him in such a dominant manner. I think these types of comments say more about the division than Price but it's cause for optimism, regardless.

Price shouldn't have too many troubles with anyone outside the top 10 in the world. The division is wide open and a solid technician with heavy hands is going to be enough to get a world title shot. My only doubt is how well his chin holds up but I'm more optimistic about that right now, than I was before the yesterdays fight.

TBH he's professional about his work and i respect that. I sense a bit of confidence coming out in interviews i'm not sure if he's starting to believe hype. I didn't like the 'no ones done that to him' line. Skelton beat John in a round as well.

John landed punches early 2 good jabs and right hand, i wouldn't get to carried away with Price if you look John was slamming floor. So he wasn't totally gone just seemed to struggle with sheer size and strength of punches.

John seemed to steam out and unload i think if he was a bit more educated in approach and took a few shots on gloves early he could gauge power. A lot of fighters do that early just let shots hit gloves and it sorta focuses mind and gets you used to being hit. Last night the first real punch John took was a hard one that floored him.

I think Price is beatable, all the talk of being next heavyweight to dominant world scene is a bit silly at this point.

Always thought DP was good and thought he would get rid of Mac early.

However i did notice he got caught with some shots last night. It might not be anything but just something to think about. It might just have been because of the type of fight it was. They both came in, Price hurt him and JM went mental.

Still think though after that, he will knock Fury out with a right hand.

I tend 'til I've been impressed before dishing out big compliments :good

  15. He's definitely been working on planting his feet a bit more.

McDermott doesn't have the greatest chin but it's not exactly eggy, Price but him down three times in a minute.

He's the sort of opponent that a potentially world level fighter ought to be dealing with, but to bang him out in half a round is as good as it could realistically get.

They ought to push for the Fury fight next, I wouldn't bother with the likes of Sexton, who isn't any better than McDermott really, nor is Rogan in all honesty. The only other domestic opponent I'd consider is Sprott, but he's comfortably losing decisions in Germany these days and sparring for a living.
