If you read In the Ring With Tommy Burns you will have a much greater appreciation for Burns. He could stick and move and use his footwork and timing, or he could in-fight and war it out. He did both equally well in various fights. He had excellent conditioning, an excellent jaw, solid punching power, and good ring generalship. Despite his height deficiency, he had long arms and was surprisingly strong for his size. He was even better as a heavyweight, when he no longer had to badly weaken himself to make middleweight. Including the Marvin Hart victory, a fighter who weighted 195 pounds to Burns' 175, Tommy went 14-0, 11 KOs as a heavyweight before losing to Johnson. No shame there, given that Johnson came to be thought of as an ATG. He beat the strongest, roughest, most physical fighter in Hart, and the most experienced, fleet-footed, quickest boxer in O'Brien. Not bad. So does Burns have a shot to beat a 160-175-pound Greb? You bet. It's a fight.
Forget Greb he would destory anyone today aint that right Flea? I mean the guy forgot more than you know...he was awesome...saw 4 and half minutes footage of him
Greb.....because I think Burns wasn´t nothing special and nothing a real HW....and Greb is the Greatest IMHO.... But I think it´s very hard for us to say without video of Greb.....
Folks, Greb was only 5'8", one inch taller than Burns, he had a shorter reach than Burns, and he didn't weigh any more than Burns. In fact, he typically weighed about 10 pounds less than Burns did. Not sure why Burns is receiving no love here. Jim Flynn was a strong 169-pound swarming fighter with a punch and Burns stopped him in 15 rounds and won nearly every round.
People certainly shouldn't dismiss Burn's chances here. He was a pound for pound great. Against Greb though, he is arguably up against the greatest p4p fighter who ever lived.
Adam, dare I say, if you wrote a book about greb and went into as much detail as you're famed for, you'd almost certainly convince yourself greb should be the favourite. It's not about not loving burns, but we're pitting him against the wise man's choice for goat (basing on resume as opposed to skillset)
Less than one chapter of that book was put up on this forum ,I found 12 inaccuracies in it without trying. The guy that wrote it is a joke. Burns is underated I agree, but some of the crap in that tome is ludicrous.
