I completely see what you mean mate. Talent wise, I'd consider him an ATG. But he just hasnt proven it with his level of opposition

I'm probably gonna' contradict myself....but I actually think Floyd, in terms of style, would be kryptonite to Arguello :-(

Rocky Marciano would have been soundly beaten by every major Heavyweight champion after him, with the execption of Floyd Patterson, Johansson, Spinks and probably Rahman

He would have beaten L. Spinks, and was better overall than Johansson.

Rocky would have beaten a few guys J. Tate comes to mind, again Rocky was in a niche period when he was on top, 3 years as champ and 4 in total competing with the best..when he was up and coming.

Walcott, Charles, people cite as good wins but Walcott was ancient for that period, considering that athletes normally were done by his age whereas now as you see with AC Milan they can prolong players that normally would have retired.

Charles in the one year before he fought Rocky was 2-2, he had lost to light-heavy Harold Johnson, N. Valdes...gives Rocky hell, then 7 months after the second rocky fight he gets knocked out by j.holman who was i think 20-10...then Charles loses 5 fights in 1955, when he gave rocky hell in 54. Paterson then does a better job against Moore,....Floyd also had to fight proper heavyweights.

Rocky best fight and opponent was lastarza and yet a year after got knocked out by a complete bum.

His resume is the worst of all the all time greats that people mention...id go as far to say he isnt an all time great...a good champ along the likes of other good champs....does not belong in the top 15.

Na, I think he'd ruin Frazier & several others. Marciano vs Liston would be a fun fight. Not sure that many would "soundly" beat him.

The one thing i will agree with you flea is that the old timers before the 1990s, all fought he other especially the champs....Floyd unwilling to take on the best available opponents mean we dont know his innate strength, his will to win.

Floyd by now considering his talent could have fought-

    P. Williams
    Cotto
    Margarito
    Martinez
    Pacquaio

Hearns would rip floyd heart out badly...

floyd like calazghe are huge talents that have cherry picked.

frazier was awesome, watch his fights against Ellis, his first against Ali, one of the best ever....the guy was unlucky had to fight Ali and Foreman twice each.

If frazier was around 52-56 he would have been unbeaten.......he beat the **** out of alot of modern heavies..the guy was seasoned, tough and huge will to win.

Only the Klitshckos with there negative styles would have a chance...

Its about who is around, for example the year of 1992...you had Holyfield, Bowe, Lewis, Morrison, Mercer, Old Holmes tricky, Foreman biggest punch.

Or you could be a champ when Ruiz, Byrd, Toney and Valuev were around.

Does anyone honestly think Calazghe would handle prime Toney, Jones and Hopkins? Or just stay undefeated if he were plying his trade against the 168 now?

 why are you going off about Rocky after i said he losses to most of the HWs after him. I dont include guys like Tate as a Major HW Champion

Rahman is very underated, outboxed an up and coming Tua before getting stopped, beat up C. Sanders who was a huge puncher...1-1 with Lewis, got fat and lazy and lost to Ruiz etc...but when he was on, he was dangerous.

The guy lacked dedication, much like B. Douglas these guys were good but so inconsistent, they would beat a good fighter then lose to a crap one.

I think Smoking Joe's speed gives him problems. So would his power.

The liston fight would be very entertaining indeed, but Sonny hit pretty damn hard. I dont think Rocky lives with his power

I completely agree that he is underrated probably because of his later work. He was a good boxer, but we all know he could be hurt. Rocky was a deadly puncher and a deadly finisher. He'd knock Rahman out after catching up to him late
