Yeah there were signs of neurological problems there - complaining about a tremendous headache after the Julian Jackson fight, etc.

So he was probaly more suspect to brain injury than alot of fighters.

But I think the main thing that let McCllellan down - was - he had zero defence throughout the fight - he took so many clean head shots from a banger like Benn = great chin - but zero defence - anyone could end up brain damaged after taking round after round of such clean powerful shots than Benn was dishing out.

Where did the blood clot form ?

McCllellan - regained conciouness in the ambulance - and full of pride and defiance to the bitter end - ripped off his oxygen mask.

the odds on the fight were,
mcclellan 3 to 1 on, put £3 on to win £1.
benn 3 to 1 against, put £1 on to win £3.
hardly anyone picked benn to win the fight, all the british press went with mcclellan. colin hart from the sun picked mcclellan in 3.
the only guy who went for benn was horse racing pundit john mccririck, who picked "benn to win for britain."
    good on ya john.

To be fair Wrank Farren seemed to have faith in Benn prior to fight on the night and dismissed the heavy odds on for Benn to lose as inaccurate of Benns chances.

thats right. he did seem quietly confident about benn.
he did say "i think nigel benn's gonna show us something tonight."
    he was right about that.

tarick salmaci gives one of the most insightful interviews on this. from the sounds of things, this blinking was before jackson.

Benn was known to go clubbing and partying in Tenerife during camp (ala Wharton camp).

The odds stacked towards McClellan after the rave reviews he got from all British media when working out at the Peacock Gym in the week of the fight, they were literally having multiple orgasms over the guys bag work and foot work.

Rd 8 closing stages sums up Benn for me

McClellan tags Benn with some BIG right hands to back him up into the corner to unload. Benn on shakey feet and finally drops (missing with a wild left) before taking a standing count.

Benn still looking wobbly as McClellan closes back in to tee off before Benn unleashes an overhand right, left hook combo followed by two right uppercuts on the inside to stop Gman in his tracks.

    Brutal fight.
