It's hard to tell. Mayweather is gifted with way more in an athletic sense than Marquez. Maybe he couldn't do what JMM's done with the same attributes.

I'm a ***** and I voted Marquez. Floyd is more skilled and much better but Marquez is smarter at analysing and devising gameplans, Mayweather's a dumb ass for not taking what would be a very easy fight in Pacquaio

Floyd is the smartest fighter in the sport right next to hopkins and Winky Wright.

Al haymon came up with that business model, if it wasn't for him he would not have anywhere near as much and would still be giving up %.

I disagree; Judah and De La Hoya stand out to me more than any other fight between the two in this respect, and the first 3 rounds against Hatton were more competitive than the rest. Both are somewhat slow starters and counter-punchers, but I just can't get over neglecting movement. And shane didn't gas against Pac necessarily, but his offense was gone. He's too old to pull the trigger or risk himself in exchanges.

The thing that stands out to me here is that while I admit we're debating two fighters on pretty close/even terms here in terms of intelligence, one is almost always smaller than his opponent and disadvantaged in terms of speed, power, and youth, while the other is in his prime and almost always has a speed, reach, and either youth or size on his side. Floyd is more defensively responsible and efficient in his dominance, but the argument is whose smarter; I believe by mere necessity, Juan has to be smarter and more creative than Floyd has ever had to be in a ring.

Floyd is probably the most defensively and strategically responsible fighter I've ever had the pleasure to watch live.

I do think that Andre Ward may be smarter, AW's recent exploits of elite level opposition has just been unparalleled in boxing recently.

PBF's ring IQ is the highest in the game today. Which is no knock on JMM who I rate at the top as well. Both are brilliant ring generals with PBF being better. PBF can fight effectively and adjust to all styles. The guy has a plan A B C D and E like he said and no one has made him show his other plans because he's that good. But if tested I'm sure he would use them as well. The guy is a boxing genius and his high ring IQ is his biggest strength.

What do you think of Andre Wards chances of exceeding the mentioned fighters in this thread, when it comes to ring IQ?

His adaptability and utter exploits of fighters such as Kessler and Froch has me tingling on the mere thought of him fighting and EXPOSING Lucian Bute. :smoke
