If Floyd fights Cotto in May, does all the "him ducking Cotto" BS disappear?

i alway thought cotto was the one not ready for mayweather, i need to read threads more did not know people thought floyd ducked cotto
umm mayweather vs cotto is a decent fight but i think berto would give floyd most trouble between 47 and 54.

The thing is, Floyd was THE top dog at welterweight in 2008!!

Cotto made no effort to try to fight Floyd, neither did Arum. Floyd took a break, but a big payday would have bought him back, no question. But no offer was ever made.

Margarito was and is a fraud, and he never deserved a shot at Floyd anyway. Floyd called Mosley out before the Oscar fight, but he had a tooth ache (he was stepping aside so his partner Oscar could make the bigger fight, i get it, but still).

Williams lost against Quintana, regained his belt in 2008 and then moved up to 154 &160.

Floyd was entitled to take a break, if that's what he wanted to do. When you are the champ, people go after you, not the other way around. The fact that none of these fighters or their promoters EVER made an offer to fight Floyd is very interesting.

It's like asking whether Pac deserves credit for beating Mosley in 2011, despite 'avoiding' him in 2009.

Same argument you could make with Floyd-Mosley. But yeah, better late than never.
Not gonna bite it though, unless Cotto becomes a free agent.

Pac's own trainer said Mosley was too good in 2009. Floyd or Roger never conceded any kind of defeat to Cotto, and always maintained that he would get beaten up. There is a big difference. :yep

And Floyd retiring didn't help his case, All we can do is assume but the fact is Floyd didn't fight the hot welterweight era that was 2008.

Yeah they'll say he stopped ducking him, but they'll say he cherry picked him instead

The fact is they didnt fight him either. No offers were made. Why is it always on Floyd to chase everyone down to fight?

Cotto never calls out anyone. He's a "I'll fight whoever" type person.

Anyway, the point isn't about Floyd avoiding Cotto and Cotto only. It's about Floyd, the king of his division, deciding not to stick around to take on the hot competition while it was around. Him beating Cotto now would still be a brilliant win, but it wouldn't be on the level of beating one of the top 147 guys - either Cotto, Marg or Williams - back in 2008.
