uh that's cool, make it happen. You can't say he's ducking Rigo when Gamboa is faster and more powerful than him.
He's probably better for Donaire's style though

Donaire doesnt want anything to do with Rigondeaux

And has big balls in wanting everything to do with Gamboa

My thoughts? He wants Gamboa because Gamboa has shown more vulnerability so far in his pro fights than Rigondaeux. He's gotten better over the years - conicidentally the better he gets defensively and the less needless risks he takes, the more that plonker Max Kellerman calls him boring or criticises him - so I'd still favour Gamboa to beat Donaire. But in all honesty? Rigo has the more difficult style for Donaire to deal with.

Another factor is that Gamboa/Donaire would be an in-house Top Rank fight, and I have no doubts that's got something to do with Donaire claiming that it'd be a "good fight" whereas Rigondeaux/Donaire would be "boring for boxing".

Ultimately, I see Donaire fighting against Vavquez, Jr and then Arce - if he beats Vazquez - at 122lbs for the WBO title, then moving up to 126lbs. Not sure whether Top Rank currently advertise him as a two-weight or three-weight 'world' champion - as his WBA Super Flyweight strap was an interim one - but I see them trying to move him up the weight classes quickly to mimic the Pacquiao "multi-weight champion Filipino" angle. I think a fight with Riogndaeux at 122lbs puts a dent in those plans.

 

TBH although Gamboa compliments Donaire's style more than Rigo (and Donaire obviously knows this), it's also a more exciting fight and the one I would prefer to see as a fight fan. So I'm happy with these comments.

 

Rigondeaux is a Top Rank fighter too, but they don't really give a **** about him. Interestingly Arum did mention a Donaire-Rigondeaux fight, but it was only when Donaire had one more fight on his contract and it looked like he was bolting. Now that he's re-signed, you won't hear a peep about this bout from Arum or DuBoef.

I think the main reason he's saying this is because he knows Gamboa is not long for 126, and I'm sure Donaire would want to drain him down even more if the two were to fight sometime in the next 6-9 months. At the very least, it deflects any negative publicity he'd get for clearly wanting nothing to do with Rigondeaux.

 

I thought Rigondeaux was co-promoted by Top Rank, didn't realise they were his sole promoters at this stage.

I don't think calling out Gamboa deflects any negative publicity he'll receive, tbh. Donaire's only known by boxing fans who'll be able to understand that he doesn't want to fight Rigondeaux as he doesn't want to be made to look "boring", and at this stage wants 'money' fights. He's not ducking Donaire, as if Top Rank wanted the fight it'd likely happen. But those same boxing fans know Gamboa is already stated he's done at 126lbs, and wants to be fighting at 135lbs in 2012. If anything, saying he doesn't want to fight Rigondeaux at 122lbs but would fight Gamboa - who is moving upwards - at 126lbs seems transparent. (Not that I think Donaire should get any real negative publicity for his comments - unless they're taken out of context.)

Having said that, I think either Cuban beats him.

DONAIRE IS DUCKING BOTH GAMBOA AND RIGONDEAUX.

He knows Gamboa is moving up to possibly 130-135, so he knows a fight with Gamboa is impossible.

 

These are good times to be super bantam/featherweight fans, Donaire, Gamboa, Rigo.

 

I want to see him fight rigondeaux as well, this wont be narvaez 2, gamboa sparks nonito out though, you can bank on that.

 

Gamboa and Donaire both with Top Rank? Dont bet on it happening as long as Arum is alive. Remember Gamboa vs Lopez?


Would be a very entertaining fight in fantasy though.

Rigondeaux doesnt impress me. I could name 10 ESB posters who could beat Rico Ramos. He's not a fighter. He should be doing something else with his life.

 

Donaire beats Gamboa by TKO after getting off the canvas, probably more than once.

 

Oh he might still be co-promoted, but I don't think that's what would cause any hesitation on Top Rank's end for making a Donaire fight. The fact that he's Cuban and has a far less entertaining style than Gamboa would however.

 

We all know Arum would NEVER make an in house fight. Right?

 

Can we all remember than Gamboa is a top 10 ranked p4p fighter and a couple divisions higher than Donaire. There's nothing wrong with this choice
