Actually, Roger once said Cotto would be Floyd's toughest fight. This was at the same time Floyd was calling Miguel "too green."

No, because Pac already tore Cotto up. Fighting him NOW isn't nearly the same thing as fighting him when he was supposed to.

Yes, but Roger still said Floyd would beat him. And obviously Arum thought the exact same thing, hence him NEVER pushing for that fight.

If Cotto could have beaten Floyd, Arum would have put him in the ring with him. But he knew he could not, and thought Cotto would be the bigger star down the road.

He's entitled to fight, or not fight, whoever he wants, but it hurt his legacy. Someone with his skill and talent should be trying to get as many scalps as he can, like Leonard did, like Ali did, etc. I'm not saying Floyd isn't great, but sitting there going "All roads lead to me" doesn't give your resume any extra points. He has never aggressively chased an opponent for a fight because he feels he's too damn important. A prime, undefeated Cotto would probably be his best win right now, and after Cotto beat Mosley, I'm sure he would have taken the fight. He was much more developed at 147. Sweeping out Williams, Margarito, and Mosley at that time would have been sensational. Sure, they all have their flaws, but so does everybody. He chose not to pursue them, which is fine, but he has to live with that void on his resume.

Do you really think that people who think May ducked Cotto 4 years ago will be fine with a fight today?

That's not true since he offered fights for Cotto, Mosley, and Margarito twice each.

Hatton laid the groundwork on what you should do to get Floyd in the ring. With Floyd having motivational issues back then Cotto could have tried something or at least showed some serious interest in making the fight happen. But Cotto seemed rather passive about it and there were never any reports of Arum contacting Floyd's team to make a fight. Really all Cotto had to do was keep winning and I guarantee he would have been in the ring with Floyd instead of Mosley. Well he ****ed that up and Mosley was the one who whooped Margarito, hence why he got the fight with Floyd.

People don't seem to understand the statement "All roads lead to Mayweather." It simply means he doesn't have to search for anyone to fight because technically every fighter out there should want to get in the ring with him. To me, Cotto never seemed to be in much of a hurry to make the fight happen. Why never the announcement of "I want to get Floyd in the ring to prove to the world that I'm the best." All he ever managed was "I would be interested in fighting Floyd." But either way, the fight just might happen now. Better late than ever. But my degree of interest is about the same now as it was back in 2007. Cotto is a good fighter but too flawed to present any real problem for Floyd. I felt that way then and now.

no one knew how good cotto really was back then so he appeared a bigger risk than the reward that beating him offered. today, he is a big name who has been soundly whooped on 2 occasions. the circustanses are totally different to anyone wanting to cash in on him now.

All this talk about Mayweather vs Cotto in 08 is lacking a lot of details though. Margarito vs Cotto was signed sealed and delivered as soon as Cotto beat Mosley which is why Cotto fought Alfonso Gomez as a stay busy fight while Margarito was looking to bounce back from his loss to Williams by rematching Cintron. These guys fought on the same card and fought each other 3months after there fights. If Margarito would have lost then Mayweather vs Cotto would have been more of a possibility if he didn't line him up with Clottey first. Or they would have chased after Hoya.

Hell yeah, FM should've fought him YEARS ago. Margo's shot to hell, why doesn't Floyd fight him too? He's always sayin' "Manny beat my leftovers", whattahfk's the difference, now?
