Why didn't George Foreman retire after he re-gained the title from Michael Moorer?

Would have thought this would be the perfect fight to go out on. Was he looking to fight Bowe or something?

I don't have a solid reason to offer, nor do I know if he ever commented on it.. But the one thing I can think of is that HBO was still giving him some lucrative showings even for fighting guys of Lou Savarese' calibur, so soft pay days might have been his motivation.

  6. Part of it was money and part of it was that ego. He still wants to fight now. He sparred with his son and some of his friend last year. He wanted to comeback at age 55,he loves boxing because he's a natural fighter. Also, him staying a fighter after Moorer allowed him to promote the grill even more. He became the oldest man to defend the title too and he was pushing Prime Briggs around that ring easily. George was great.

Simple - money, fame, prestige, ego. Why would you readily give up something you worked so long to obtain?

My dream Foreman defense would have been against Bowe. I think it could have been a very interesting fight, though physically damaging to both. But it would have been a legit defense against a worthy number one contender, which would have brought more honor to his title reign, win or lose. And I think it was a fight Foreman would have had a chance to win, because footwork and speed is what always gave Foreman troubles, and Bowe didn't move and he wasn't the quickest guy Foreman fought by far. Riddick would have been right there to take those thudding shots. Of course, Foreman would have to take some big ones, too.

It wouldn't be that interesting - pre-Golota Bowe would have beaten old Foreman pretty badly.

Maybe, maybe not. Holyfield managed to drop Bowe and have him nearly out, but had no gas to finish. Foreman was a pretty good finisher, and heavier handed than Holyfield. If Golota and Holy could drop him, Foreman had a shot do to so too, given that Bowe would be right there to be hit - no angles or the footwork that always troubled Foreman. Not saying Bowe doesn't stop Foreman, but George wouldn't have gone into that good night easily or without landing some hellacious bombs of his own.

His win over then undefeated Savarese was at least solid (Lou was coming off a win over Mathis, Jr. and did later KO Douglas). Many thought Foreman was robbed against Briggs, and Briggs was not a joke. Big strong guy with some boxing skill who gave Lennox a pretty good tussle. But I'm not saying anyone would particularly call Foreman's reign honorable given his total avoidance of the really elite contenders.

Well he had just knocked out a heavyweight champ so he obviosly wasnt completly spent, he probably decided to get a few more easy paychecks while he could.
