As classic posters will know Luther McCarty collapsed in the first round of a fight with Arthur Pelkey ,whilst McCarty was defending his White Heavyweight Championship. Reports indicate that Pelkey did not even land a significant blow on McCarty, and that the Cowboy died as a result of either injuries sustained during his previous fight with Frank Moran ,or from falling from a horse. The original opponent of McCarty was to have been Tommy Burns, who had offered Luther $10,000 win ,lose ,or draw to come to Calgary and defend his synthetic title. Its likely that Burns never had any intention of facing McCarty and was just drumming up publicity, this seems to have been confirmed when he abruptly pulled out of the fight and announced his protege Arthur Pelkey would instead challenge McCarty. Burns not only promoted Pelkey he had an interest in the local Stadium. At this point the real heavyweight champion Jack Johnson , on his uppers in France, declared he would be willing to come to Calgary and defend his title against McCarty. Burns ,who had now taken over the promotional reins of the fight, gave an interview in the Calgary Daily Herald . He grandly dismissed Johnson's offer with the statement. "There is absolutely no reason why I should make this match,Johnson has not conducted himself in a gentlemanly manner at all since gaining the title, and, now that I am a match maker I am only putting on matches which are between men of good character and clean living fellows." Of course, were the fight to have gone ahead Pelkey, Burns meal ticket, would have been left out in the cold and Burns with him. I thought it was interesting that contrary to what some posters state ,the 35 years old Johnson was prepared to take on the 21years old White Heavyweight Champion who was coming off decent wins over Moran,Flynn x2 Palzer and Kaufmann. But was rejected by the erstwhile promoter [Burns]. Instead the boxing world got this. This content is protected And ,moments later, this. This content is protected
Some have claimed that negotiations for Johnson McCarthy were already underway when McCarthy was killed.
What Johnson said and did as champion were two different things. He flat out skirted Jeanette, Langford and McVey for title fights when the money was there. He did not fight GunBoat Smith ( Who was also white and defeated Moran and Willard before Willard meet Johnson ) who for a while was even more accomplished than McCarty was. In addition Smith TKO'd Johnson in a 4 round exhibition match when Johnson was in his prime as a champion in 1909. So what makes you think Johnson was going to risk his title vs. McCarty?
As before, ad infinitum. YOU CANNOT BE TKO'D IN A SPARRING MATCH.atsch How many times must posters tell you this you MORON? Gunboat Smith himself said he put Johnson partly through the ropes, he NEVER claimed he tkod him, neither did he claim it was anything other than a sparring match. Answer this question. Toxie Hall dropped Rocky Marciano in a spar whilst Marciano was preparing for Don Cockell. Charlie Goldman then halted the workout for the day. Should this go on Marciano's record , [and Hall's,] as a tko win for Hall? What makes me think Johnson was going to risk his title against McCarty? His offer to Burns ,and Burns response in the Calgary paper. McCarty could only draw with Willard in 1912 yet ,three years later, in 1915,at the age of 37, Johnson took on Willard. Why would Johnson be afraid of McCarty in 1913? He saw him as an easy pay day.atsch Now, stop making a complete vagina of yourself . P. S. Did you like Kevin Smith's responses to your pathetic arguments , which I re-posted on the Burns Greb thread ? I notice you've kept well away from the topic. He really tore the rectum out of you didn't he.
Johnson signed a contract to fight Joe Jeannette in 1912, the fight was cancelled through no fault of either Jeannette ,or Johnson. Here is the link. A PRIMARY SOURCE ! Something you have NEVER produced. Keep coming back ,and I'll keep beating the **** out of you.:rofl http://news.google.com/newspapers?i...AAIBAJ&pg=5985,2548254&dq=joe+jeannette&hl=en
And Johnson could have fought Jeannette, Langford or Mcvey in Australia, France or the UK too, but he balked!:deal He wasn't serious about fighting Jeannette. In fact Jeannette summed it up best. To paraphrase, " When Jack became champion he forgot about his old friends and drew the color line against this own people " The hilarious part is your the same guy that once said Johnson did not have enough time to make a fight with McCarthy. :deal It seems like you changed your tune. Keep stepping in s&it and walking on to rakes. I get a kick out of it.
Johnson took out full page adverts in papers stating he would fight ANYONE for $ 30,000. The only concrete offer he got to fight Langford in the U. K. was for £3,000, from the NSC, its a matter of public record. Johnson signed a contract to fight Jeannette, the local authorities vetoed it, whose fault is that? Johnson never had time to fight McCarthy but he had a narrow window to fight McCarty and he offered to do so. The promoter of the McCarty / Pelkey fight.[Burns], turned him down , and gave his excuses to the local papers ,which I posted. Jeannette is full of **** he made bull**** statements whilst he was trying to drum up interest in a fight with Johnson. "He was 165lbs for his last fight with Jack [5months later he weighed 185lbs], he held his own ."etc. He forgot to mention that Johnson floored him 3 times in a 6 round fight in 1905,and floored him 3 times in another 1905 bout. I posted the ringside accounts of their fights here yesterday. Show me in them where Jeannette is ,at any time the superior man? Promoters Jim Coffroth and Barney Curley ,both stated there was no money nor interest in a heavyweight fight between two black men. Here is another snippet. http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/cg...-------10--1----0Jack+Johnson+v+Luther+mCarty--
Jeannette is full of it, but Johnson is not? I showed you reports that said Jeannette was the better man in round one before Johnson went low. Reports also say Jeanette was much lighter, so the 165 pound claim makes sense, and as I pointed out many times Jeanette had very little experience. His record when he first meet Johnson was 0-3, and he was below, at, or just above .500 in the other fights. Essentially Johnson had to settle for a DQ, and a draw vs a very green 160ish pound middle weight in two fights, and failed to put him away in the others. Not much to brag about here.
NO , what you posted was an anonymous, unattributed piece ,and ,when ADAM POLLACK asked you for your SOURCE ,you ignored him and did not respond. The last REPORT we can find for the Johnson /Jeannette series is for their 20th Sept 1906 fight,[they fought again 2months later]. The report for this states," Jeannette Stayed The Limit But Had The Worst Of The Bout." " by clever defensive work ,and by clinching ,Jeannette managed to stay the 6 round limit, but was in trouble in the 6th, and last round" This is a PRIMARY SOURCE , The DAILY KENNEBEC JOURNAL. Less than a month after his last fight with Johnson, Jeannette held 56 fight Sam Langford to a draw. Johnson floored Jeannette 6 times in 2, 6 round fights. As PRIMARY SOURCES have shown ,Johnson won the 1st round and was on top in the 2nd in the fight in which Johnson was controversially dsq'd. IN ALL THE FIGHTS JOHNSON HAD WITH JEANNETTE ,SHOW ME ONE JEANNETTE WAS THE BETTER MAN IN. REPORTS DO NOT SAY JEANNETTE WAS 165LBS OR ANYTHING LIKE IT . THAT IS A FIGURE JEANNETTE GAVE OUT WHILST HE WAS TRYING TO DRUM UP INTEREST IN A TITLE CHALLENGE BY HIM TO JOHNSON. A CHALLENGE BARNEY CURLEY SAID WOULD BE DEAD IN THE WATER BECAUSE," TWO BLACKS WILL NOT DRAW". WHEN JEANNETTE LAST FOUGHT JOHNSON, HE WAS 27.5 YEARS OLD JUST OVER 4 MONTHS AFTER FIGHTING JOHNSON FOR THE LAST TIME JEANNETTE SCALED 185LBS FOR A FIGHT WITH SAM McVEY. Now let's establish where we are at the present . YOU HAVE BEEN ASKED COUNTLESS TIMES FOR PRIMARY SOURCES TO BACK UP YOUR WILD CLAIMS,THOSE REQUESTING THEM INCLUDE. ADAM POLLACK, MATT DONNELLON STEVE KLOMPTON,MATT McGRAIN, KEVIN SMITH ,and myself. The first FIVE of those are well respected posters who have written pieces for boxing magazines/authored books and acted in the capacity of historians for boxing sites. YOU HAVE NEVER PROVIDED A PRIMARY SOURCE ON THIS FORUM. YOU KEEP REPEATING THAT JACK JOHNSON WAS TKOD IN A 6RD EXHIBITION MATCH WITH GUN BOAT SMITH. Klompton ridiculed this claim, pointing out correctly that ,YOU CANNOT HAVE A DECISION IN A SPARRING MATCH WHICH ,ACCORDING TO GUNBOAT SMITH ,this was. Smith NEVER claimed that he stopped Johsnon ,he said he "put him through the ropes in a sparring match .I was the poster who produced Smith's taped conversation, from 1972, which referred to this. I asked you yesterday ,this question. Rocky Marciano was knocked down in a sparring match with Toxie Hall, during his gym work for the Cockell defence. Charlie Goldman, Marciano's trainer, called off the spar for the day. I therefore asked you, should that go on both Marciano's ,and Halls record as a tko for Hall? You have NOT REPLIED . IF THE ANSWER IS NO, THEN WHY WOULD YOU REPEATEDLY CLAIM IT FOR SMITH OVER JOHNSON? IF THE ANSWER IS YES THEN ,WHY DOES IT NOT APPEAR ON EITHER TWO SETS OF BOXERS RECORD AS A TKO LOSS? I have no doubt you will claim it again ,when a suitable time has elapsed ,you have a habit of repeating lies. No matter ,you are known here for what you are. And, the icing on the cake is, I don't even have to spell it out.
atsch smith did not knock out johnson; johnson did not foul out against jeannette. Why are these claims still being made?
Luf, that is a question for the chief Johnson hater, Mendoza to answer. Good luck with the reply.atsch
