Short Clip On Tyson/Holy 1991 Press Conference

Ruddock says they were both finished after their two wars in 1991. Razor had sustained a broken jaw in the second fight, Tyson a perforated eardrum. He may of also fractured a rib or two, although I'm less sure.

 

Its the other way around, Ruddock suffered a couple of broken ribs.

Funny thing, Tyson was already in severe decline for those fights,lol, Don King dickered around for the rematch and Mike fought on three weeks notice........he got hit with a lot of shots which he clearly was able to avoid in the 80's and could not put the trigger anymore, he left Ruddock off the hook several times, even the commentators on Showtime pointed that out.

Ruddock was all gone in the first fight when Steele stopped it pre maturely, a couple of more seconds with Razors hand tied in behind the ropes would have given Tyson the coup de grace, IMO he was robbed of a legitimate KO in that fight.,

Richard Steele, while a good referee IMO was way gunshy and cautious in that match. They interviewed him while he was walking out and he stated "This ain't no Gladiator Sport, they can fight another time if they want".

 

I'd believe it any which way. Crude, battering fights.

I never did understand the uproar over the stoppage. While it may of been a quick hook, the position in which Ruddock found himself could've led to some seriously permanent damage.

I think the fact Tyson wasn't at his best made the fights more entertaining. Ruddock was legititmately rated and dangerous. Tyson - while even in decline - was back to being a mean sonofabitch to be reckoned with. That's all he had to be against Douglas, not the timid non-fighting puss who got smacked up and humiliated.

 

I think it's more to do with the different styles.
Ruddock was there to be hit and didn't do much boxing. A sloppy Tyson could be a "mean sonofabitch" against such an opponent.
Douglas used angles and put his punches together, Tyson couldn't get set against him. Douglas made the sloppy Tyson seem timid because he wouldn't allow himself to be an easy target

 

Precisely. Tyson-Ruddock 1 was by far the most entertaining Tyson fight. Back and forth action between the two top contenders who were murderous punchers that just so happened to hate each other quite badly. That's what you call a fire-fight.

Have you read the book by Tyson's former bodyguard Rudy Gonzalez titled The Inner Ring? I'm forgetting if it was before the first fight or the rematch, but there was a serious scuffle between Tyson and Ruddock at Tyson's offices that involved their bodyguards, punches and gunshots! Good stuff if you haven't read it already.

 

His best fight in what way?? Best ass-whupping he ever took?? :rofl:rofl

And Lewis probably wouldnt have been so overated for knocking out Ruddock in 2.

Holyfeild was CHAMP in 1990 for beating a certain Mr.Bummy Douglas. :deal

 

It plays a role, but its silly to think Tyson's mindset didn't change after having gotten his ass kicked for the first time in the ring.

Actually haven't got a chance to check that out, lot going on lately.

One of these days I'm going to order a bunch of books and career sets just for the hell of it. There's so much info available free on the net, but sooner or later I need my own personal collection of stuff. Probably start with Tyson, Duran, Liston and work down from that.
