Says the guy who wound himself up to a near aneurysm when I pointed out what a cherrypicking, Glass Jawed Fraud his hero Roy Jones was.:roflatsch
I totally agree with the thread starter however I admit the one boxer I have slagged on here is Audley Harrison; massive respect for all the others.
Hey Baldwin, you're not my favourite poster, and i don't always agree with what you say, but i fully agree with this. Yes i get that we pay ppv's etc, we can criticise bad fights, boxers etc, but like you say, keyboard warriors, and people who think they are experts because they hit the bag a few times in the gym. Dumb ****s like the chincheckers. I have nothing but respect for every boxer that laces them up. Fickle fans **** me off, like Cotto being a fraud, and Pacquiao now being overrated :huh, it's laughable.
The people who show too much respect for fighters are equally as bad imo. These are fans who sympathize with the politics of the sport rather than call certain fighters out on their BS cause they're too much of a fan of that particular fighter to criticize, which just gives fighters a way out. Then they can sell non competitive fights and exploit the fans whilst claiming this fighter or that fighter aint PPV yadda yadda yadda. Hell you even have fans comparing PPV's these days. Its ridiculous. Like everything there is a balance to be had. Fighters should be respected, but that does't mean people should kiss their ass cause they are! fighters. I hate the line......These guys put their life on the line, show some respect" This can sometimes be used to guard against valid criticism for the fighter, even if its constructive.
At the end of the day getting punched in the face and earning a **** load of money is probably preferable to doing a monotonous 9-5 job, so it cant be that bad.
I was embarrassed for being a Steelers fan after they lost to the Broncos, not because they lost.. but because every steeler fan kept crying and whining about Ike Taylor being an useless bum.. They even went to his personal fan site to spread their hate... That was sicking me...
You would think fans would be more respectfull because of those reasons, but it seems to be the other way around... Sad.
Here is a main example as to keyboard warriors as this clown ass dude below...I mean, he never brings anything of value...thinks he knows every ****ing thing and always disrespect fighters by calling them cowards and a glass jaw joke!:-( Its ***** ass dudes like him that needs to be put on blast everytime he logs in and try to diss a pro fighter.
I think maybe you might be on the wrong website. Facebook or Bebo or Shitter might be more your gig, or perhaps some website that lets you look at people fiddling with children. Do not question our integrity, I (we) live and die for the sport. Read anything on here by John Garfield, or maybe George Kimball (not on here), you might have to buy one of his books.
I have trained, sparred and been in the ring, although they were Thai-boxing contests! 10 years ago, a buddy I trained with, died 48 hours after a fight he got knocked out in. Any dude that get's in the ring, regardless of the fact that he might have a glass jaw, no skills, fights conservatively or avoids opponents, is putting some amount of his health on the line! For that reason I am continuously both amazed and disgusted by what some folks post here about fighters they don't like. Nothing wrong with calling it as you see it, whether you think someone is a bum or a ducker or whatever. But people on the internet sometimes take it to such extremes...just because they can. I'm still not convinced that the stuff some folks post here, would actually be said in person if they were given the chance...I suspect most wouldn't have the balls for it. But I guess the safety of sitting behind a keyboard in your own house tends to provide an irresistible opportunity for some to play the tough guy part.
I take my post back, I appreciate your cause. I still stand by boxers/boxing fans being ****ing brilliant. I hope there was no loss of respect. Ian
