Has the old system of fighters independently making their fights ran its course? In the old days the top fights would get made because there was only one belt so their was incentive to become champion but now days with more weight classes, belts, catchweights ect ABC belts are meaningless.

Could you imagine the Super Bowl getting cancelled because they couldnt agree on a venue or location?

Or Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen refusing to play in the 1993 finals unless they got a percentage of the concession stands revenue?

It definately will be better for boxing as you have explained. Promoters and boxer being able to say no or make a fight hard to make is really making it hard to take boxing seriously compared to other global sports/leagues. Big money can still be made whilst still having a unifying body.

Hell yes. This is the biggest problem with boxing and always has been. Imagine if there were less weight classes and one belt per class, and everyone was forced to fight the best competition available. There'd be very few if any undefeated fighters around, plus there'd be a lot more fighters with a larger pool of talent. UFC has done it to some degree although it's really all run by one company.

It is on amateur level to some extent. Boxers suffer much more damage in pro fights than any other sport. Tourneys and leagues are just not practical.

there shouldnt be ANY promoters. there should HBO league and a Showtime league. only the elite should. make it to these 2 organizations. those two leagues should be handled like UFC and Strikeforce. the best fighting the best.

There needs to be ONE governing body, with strict stipulations on championship fight qualification, weight restriction to ensure guys are fighting in their proper divisions, and madatory title defenses with penalties for non-commital to defend vs. said top contender. And auditing system on the rankings and judges scoring as well. All that as a start. Retirement pension as well. Throw in purse restrictions as well.

Spot on Lance, it won't happen though obviously but that would be ideal for the fans.

That's not bitching child. That's simply telling you you're idea was stupid. How can I be on your nuts when they haven't even DROPPED yet? :huh

Sorry little boy, I rarely drink, and not yet 40. But good try. Maybe you can write another 'idea' up and post it up on the fridge with a magnet. :thumbsup

Thre big guns in boxing would stand to LOSE WAAY to much money to ever go for something like that. Top Rank and GBP namely, and their stars. They have almost a monopoly with HBO ands SHO dates due to their clientele. And that trickles down to the ABC's who want to collect the high fee's from their fighters.

I can honestly see boxing just getting worse and worse to the point it's ONLY shown on ESPN3 at 4AM after the world serries of Scrabble. Maybe a decade or more away. But I don't see it getting better unless some MAJOR intevention happens.
