Pernell Whitaker did? If so, who beat more all time greats or borderline greats in as dominate a fashion as Pea
Harry Greb, NO CONTEST. Gene Tunney Tommy Gibbons Jack Dillon Mike Gibbons Tommy Loughran Mickey Walker Kid Norfolk Maxie Rosenbloom Tiger Flowers Battling Levinsky Gunboat Smith Most of these HOF fighters outweighed the great Greb by many pounds, and for a great part of his astounding career, Greb did it the HARD way. With one peeper....
Jones -Hopkins/Toney Tyson-Spinks Except Greb didn't dominate the best of them But they were allot smaller and older
Yes...and just for the record, Jose Napoles was picked by many experts to not only beat Monzon, but to outclass him. I remember the buildup to that fight and the coverage it got in the major boxing magazines back then.
PP ,why can't you give Harry Greb his due.? He beat all of them ,some many times. What fighter "dominated" [silly term],every bout he ever fought ? It's fine to be a contrarian, but a serious discussion is needed...Harry Greb for the ages.:happy
Greb did beat them, no doubt, and some of them were all time greats. I think his name certainly deserves a mention and he could be in the running. However, as PP points out, did he dominate them the way Whitaker totally and completely won almost every round against all time greats or clearly outclassed them... Ramirez, Nelson, Chavez, Mcgirt, Vasquez, Brazier.. Nazario wasn't too bad either. I would also include.. a past his prime.. blown up lighweight on drugs IMO beating a prime Oscar. Did Greb beat the guys you named as soundly as Pea did the guys above?
These two points contradict themselves. Spinks was a natural light heavy and wasn't primed for Tyson.
He certainly dominated Gene Tunney in their first encounter, and he has an argument for being the best of them. Come to think of it, he has at lest one dominant win over most of the top light heavyweights of his era.
Jones... People think Jones dominated all time greats the same as Pea? I just don't see it that way myself.... Janitor... would you say Greb dominated all time greats the same way Pea did?
Who are the all-time greats ? Chavez. was that a serious domination ? Nelson ? Ramirez ? When I look at the resume, I don't see much "ATG" jumping out at me.
You don't think Chavez was a dominating performace? I guess we disagree there... I would add the tops names.. even if you don't consider them all time greats.. they are borderline greats, and or, very good fighters..... Vasquez, McGirt & Brazier
