He was never on the radar of the casual fan though. He'll be known more for winning an Olympic gold medal than anything he's done as a pro, as his entire career has been played out on Sky Sports, PPV and BoxNation (assuming he's fought on BN).
It's crazy JD or whoever wants to leave IMHO. He's the best out there with a proven record, also what about loyalty he shows in his boxers ie JD gets beat but he gets him a Euro title shot straight after, Pays KM mortgage while he gets back on his feet. Very True Arnie, I think there's a number of reasons behind this. I think Groves being signed was a kick in bollocks for Chunky. Plus all this talk of not being paid. Ok he gets paid a lot more then he should but end of day i wouldn't complain and a deals a deal lads. Now we'll see what comes out but i see both sides of this.
He probably wants to be promoted properly. Frank hasn't really done right by any of the lads since Khan left, let's be honest. A complete novice could have done a better job. Hardly any fights, hardly any fans, and hardly any chance of getting any exposure (either positive or negative) unless he leaves. Wouldn't be so bad if he'd actually been paid....
To me, the only way you can promote a fighter is three ways: 1. MAN OF THE PEOPLE: Hatton, Bruno, Benn. 2. LOVE TO HATE: Hamed, Eubank, Harrison. 3. PUBLIC PLATFORM: Khan (Olympics), Haye (David and Goliath).
How do you promote someone like Degale? At least some of the "hardlys" you mention are mostly down to Degale. You can't make people become fans of a boxer and the amounts in Degales contract seem to mean he can only fight on PPVs which limit his outings. Frankies fault for offering the money but also DeGales for not being willing to take a few marking time fights on non-PPv cards. edit: posted before GGs post.

Arnie i agree with what your saying when it comes to loyalty and the Kevin Mitchell situation. But getting Degale that euro title was also in Fwanks best interest to. Arnie as you was an expro would you have been happy to leave the biggest sports broadcasting tv station in the UK to go fight on boxnation were only the die hard fans are going to see you box how are you surposed to build a star when only a hand full of the nation see's you.
