I agree that pro wrestling being fake is common knowledge today. It wasn't always that way, though, and I suspect that the slow acceptance of fixed fights from the 1910's onward is responsible for the somewhat odd modern kayfabe agreement between the fans and the wrestlers. Also, the MMA and boxing (as opposed to pro wrestling) fans do seem to care at least to some degree, since their elected governments have created athletic commissions to deal with some of the more serious corruption.
Exactly the same way YOU quoted me in the DW response to ESPN thread without knowing actually what is my stance on the UFC....it does sound kinda familiar don't you think ?
Yeah Pride never die whatever but it is dead. I love PrideFC and JMMA even though I wasn't around at the time but you have to move on. Nothing wrong with still watching Pride etc. I have a few DVDs but seriously the guys who act like UFC is the devil and Pride is so much better have to go. Both are great in their own ways. Pride was more like real fighting and their was something special about the atmosphere and presentation of it. It embodied the Bushido spirit. UFC is more like a sport and has its own unique feel to it. Without UFC, MMA would not be where it is and where it is going.
That's pretty cool that he has a Pride tattoo, I like it. :good As long as it just a small logo or something on his bicep and not some huge thing. I know a guy that has a Halo logo over his nipple. That is just ****ing weird, in comparison a Pride tattoo is fairly normal.
Honestly, a Halo tattoo could just symbolize good times with friends. The logo of a corrupt, failed organization that you never worked for, which promoted a sport you never competed in, that's laughable IMO. Still, each to their own I suppose. And hey, I don't diss PRIDE as such. I just think that its way of doing things was leading the sport down a dead end. And I really hate the racism, corruption and lack of concern for the fighter's health and safety. But even though it wasn't a legitimate sporting organization, they did put on great shows/events, no doubt about that. Just wasn't the Golden Age of MMA like many here pretend it was. :conf Still, over the last week I've been watching a few fights that I've previously only seen highlights of. I downloaded all 3 Fedor-Nog fights but have only watched the first, and I watched Fedor-Cro Cop too. And I intend to watch more. :good :hat
I agree Pride was great but it wasn't perfect and neither is the UFC. Fanboys on both sides are ridiculous.
The difference to me is very, very simple. PRIDE = Spectacular events, corrupt, failed organization that was leading MMA down a dead end road. UFC = Legitimate sports organization that is growing MMA internationally and bringing it into mainstream sporting culture in the West. Neither is perfect, but then again, what is? You can ***** about flaws and failings in any sports. :good :hat
:good I get called a pathetic fanboy merely for being excited and enthusiastic about the rise of MMA into mainstream sporting culture. For the first time in my life, there is a combat sport that I can actually easily follow. That I can get my mates interested in. And that is growing, getting a deeper and deeper talent pool, delivering stacked cards every month, and constantly making awesome fights between top-level fighters. I'm not ashamed to say that I LOVE what the UFC is doing for MMA. I love combat sport, and combat sports in the West were dead in the water until Griffin and Bonnar and Dana and the Fertittas set the ball rolling. Try getting one of your mates into boxing these days. You can't. But it's EASY to make a new MMA fan. The UFC is the ONLY reason that the sport is now entering the mainstream. And I'm stoked about it. I honestly can't see why anyone who calls themselves an MMA fan wouldn't be. :good :hat
