For many BJJ specialists....respectable opinions......Jacaré and Roger Gracie are the two Greatest BJJ Fighters EVER ! (Seriously) [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKEMwmexT2Y[/ame] Check out.....all time great skills here....by both ! There is no comparison between the BJJ overall level of Palhares with Jacaré, Xande Ribeiro, Garcia .....and Maia, who is always giving tough fights against these guys, or even beating them....a guy who give this guys hell isn´t any Mike Massenzio in the ground..... Maia is a Five Time World Champion......he wouldn´t be submitted by any leg lock from a guy who is very know by this technique..... Perhaps I´m underrating Toquinho.....but you got my point......
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ed3nT13QFEM[/ame] Napão is more complete in the ground than Palhares, Napão is much better in the ground than anyone Palhares ever submitted.....he has a game much more vast......
So ? And Frank Mir when he was a blue belt submitted the great Roberto Traven in the UFC....upset happens.....I can´t see the problem....I don´t know Paul Harris too well to be honest....but he is probably a great talent as you described..... Barral is very very good by the way...... Now, a better question.......Who Touquinho submitted ?? If Maia always was a extremely hard opponent against Jacaré and these ATG BJJ fighters.....it´s not Toquinho who would make him tap....with his broadly known leg locks.... Don´t get me wrong here....Toquinho is amazing ( I don´t like him to be honest)......but Maia is a better grappler.....and I can´t see Toquinho submitting him, no way......and that´s the only way he would beat Maia.....in my humble opinion.....
maia wins a surprisingly easy fight. hes one of the best EVER in jiu jitsu and those leglocks are just not going to cut it against a man of his abilities.
Jacare is nowehere near the best ever. Roger clearly is the best ever. Maia has NEVER WON THE MUNDIALS at black belt. He is not a 5 time world champion of the IBJJF Munidals, any other GI tourney is small fry in comparison.
Yeah but Paul Harris did it in a grappling comp not like Mir vs Traven when Mir nearly KO'd him first. Who has he subbed... Eh? David Allevan Rafeal Lovato Jnr Luciano Linares Romulo Barral Who has Maia subbed on that level? I am not saying Paul Harris would definantly sub Maia but he would have a decent shot. Also Jacare subbed Maia at the 2005 ADCC, with a Kimura. The ADCC is a better indicator of how MMA fights will go than GI comps anyway. Just look at Rodolfo he destroyed the Mundials kicked everybodies ass then got heelhooked by Dean Lister at the ADCC.
Ironically Maia would probably have a better shot in the Gi than anywhere else. As there are no heelhooks.
Jaca had some votes in one election some time ago around here......He is the close second in the opinion of many......
I think you´re underrating Napão Gonzaga if you think one of those guys are better than him...... Toquinho subbed Lovato Jr, you´re right, I forgot that....that´s something really good.....like I said before probably I´m underrating Toquinho´s jiu-jitsu at this level, he was a good surprise for everyone in the ADCC as far as I remember......but I think you´re underrating Maia as well.... Not a submission I know, but Maia beating Jacaré is better than anything Toquinho has (if I´m not missing something)......and more important : not being subbed by Jacaré (and many others on that level) is something special as well....... Do you think Toquinho would subbed Maia like he did against the others in UFC ? Could happens...but you have to admit that would be much more difficult to do against Maia.... It´s even more difficult to do that today....because NOW we all know about his heel speciality, take that from him and he will be much less efficient.....and Maia is a guy who would know how to defend "leg locks" (chave de calcanhar and chave de joelho, I don´t know the names in english.....heel hook and knee bar ?? Am I right ?)..... Maia is more smart in the ground.....
