Bute fans;Do you TRULY believe your guy can beat Ward?If so,why and how?

I think this is as close to a 50/50 fight as there is. Bute clearly has excellent power and Ward almost got put away by a far lesser fighter with power in Boone so you can bet that Bute's got the ability to hurt Ward and the speed and skill to tag him more than he's ever been hit before. On the other hand, Ward is the master adapter of the division, he's got that ability like Hopkins and Mayweather to change his gameplan mid round and Hunter will have a great A, B and C plan set up for Bute. Bute is also very good at adapting mid fight but not at Wards level. Will Ward be able to make Bute respect him though with no pop in his punches? Ward will be the aggressor in this fight and that plays into Luciens favor, my guess is Ward will be able to mostly neutralize Butes big left but Butes got a nice hook as well that will be his most effective punch vs Ward imo. Bute is just as fast or faster than Ward so it's gonna be nothing like slow ass Froch vs Ward. Bute by late stoppage or Ward by close UD after losing early and turning it up in the late rounds as his superior stamina overwhelms Bute. IMO it breaks down like this:

Speed- just about equal, slight handspeed advantage for Bute and slight footspeed advantage for Ward

Power- Not even close ...Bute by a country mile

Strength- Ward is the physically stronger fighter

Stamina- Ward has better stamina but Butes improved and seems pretty damn fit too.

Chin- both guys have question marks surrounding their chins but it's not going to matter in Bute's case since Ward hits like a lightweight.

Adaptability- both are very good at this but Ward's the best in the game besides Mayweather and B-Hop.

Another thing is both of these guys mix up their punches beatifully and throw just about every punch int he book.

X Factor- Bute's left....if he can connect might send Ward to Lala land, Bute's also a great finisher, one of the best int he game and if he had Ward reeling like Boone did than it'll be goodnight for Andre.

 

Thank you, or though we may not agree on certain subjects, I truly respect your perspective on the Bute vs Ward. Any person with a logical argument and not pure bias is truly a brother of the boxing fraturnity.

I wish more people on the site would discuss things like we have and not get into personal insults, oh well.

Now , the very objective Ward fans say that Bute don't stand a chance , that he will school Lucian. For me , it's a 50-50 fight , either fighter can win it.

Bute will beat Ward because Ward never faced a caucasian Canadian style fighter before.

Speed- I actually give an edge to Ward in handspeed as well as (footwork / overall body movement)

Power- Agreed

Strength- Yes. That's why range will be key in Bute's gameplan. Can't box and fight his fight if he's got Ward's forehead on his chest all night.

Stamina- Did you see how Bute turned it up in rounds 9-10-11-12 of the Johnson fight? Good sign right there. He had been moving pretty well defensively prior to R9.

Chin- Can't wait to see if Bute can land a big left to Ward's chin or even body, especially with Ward coming in aggressively.

Adaptability- Agreed. I bet he'll be shooting for a fight in the pocket, right from the get go. Bute's reach is 72", he did take jabs but overall worked well around Johnson's reach of 75", where as Ward's is listed at 71".

 

I am a fan of Bute and I hate Ward for his SOG BS. However, Ward looked almost PBF like against Froch. However, Froch was/is an overachiever and had done extremely well with his limited talent and skill up to that point. So yes he looked great against a B- fighter but in Bute you have a whole other kettle of fish.

While I think Ward my be more skilled than Bute, Bute has more power. Ward can fight on the inside and outside, so can bute. I think work to the body can be the defining difference.

Bute and the uber talented Dirrel are the biggest threat to Ward reign at 168. while I would have Ward a slight fav over bute and a little wider margin over dirrel, he is not unbeatable
