Looked like he was attempting to set a trap to me, dropping his left while standing well inside punching range and not working much in the hope that he'd get Hughes to open up and make a mistake that he could in turn take advantage of. Of course, the fact Hughes was unwilling to oblige meant that it didn't work all that well, though it's encouraging that he has the in-ring knowledge to adapt his strategy in order to force openings.
Yep i'm not of a full opinion on fight at minute cos of lads being at different stages but i tend to agree with your line of thought. Does anyone know why Carl fights at SBW? is Bantam impossible for him?.
I get the feeling that Sky will push for the fight big time. There is a reason they've been scheduled so closely. McGuigan needs to earn his money as a manager now and not get over-powered.
Thing is he knew that Hughes had no power, nothing that could hurt him but still he looked a bit clueless at times, he could and should have just walked tstraight thorugh him.... time will tell.
I thought it was a mature performance by Frampton tonight. Very patient , fought at a good pace and then ended it with a big punch. It will be interesting to see who they put him in with if he goes to MSG on the 17th March. It was a very easy fight to score...i had it 60-54 to Frampton, Ive already collected a few scores on this thread for my blog so if anybody else has their score at the time of stoppage please post it cheers. ps: blog is linked in first post of thread cheers again
That's got to be one of the easier fights to score. I'm sure IJL would have found a few for Hughes though.
Mate what were you expecting when before you watched this fight tonight? I expecting a good solid, learning pefomance from a very good prospect who is just entering double figures a pro. And thats what I got, complete with a resounding knockout. A few people here are being harsh on Frampton, including you. What more could you really expect fom him when he was fighting a fairly game, akward fighter like Hughes in his 12th bout. Posters seem to forget that Carl is basically a novice, and not the finished article. He will keep improving and this was a good learning fight for him. Dont expect spectacular results, reagardless of how much bollocks Mcguigan and others are talking. And for the record, I would like to see Carl have another five fights or so before he faces Quigg.
Agree completely. I think its not just about the skill level of these guys but its their attitude coming into the ring. Hughes only intention was surviving in there. Its not like he stopped throwing the jab because he was getting countered he was gunshy before hed been hit. He needs a fighter like woodhouse was for Gavin/Murphy for theopane. A fighter who, no disrespect to either man, is beneath him skillwise but comes to fight who isnt daunted by being an underdog. Itll give him that extra push to keep him hungry and improving, plus well be able to see if theyve got the mental strength and intangibles that you need at elite level.
I just thought that Frampton was just going to walk through him....There is nothing in Hughes' record other than the tight loss against Arthur that would suggest that he couldn't do so. Like I said, lets see :thumbsup
First things first, Hughes is an awful fighter. No accuracy, no power, fights scared (not only in this fight, if Arthur hadn't of been deducted points that would have been a wide loss also). Just nothing to offer really. Tempered against that, I'd say Frampton did pretty well. Didn't take anything (although Hughes didn't offer a lot) and put on a steady performance, although really he possibly should have just kept up the intensity throughout.
