Who hit harder? Corrie Sanders or Earnie Shavers

The exaggerated hype over Sanders punching power has me befuddled, really. And to even mention him alongside Shavers is criminal.

Yeah, I think so too, mate. At heavyweight, there are plenty of fighters who hit as hard as he did. I really don't see how anyone could make such wild claims about his power - I'm sure he wouldn't even say he hit that hard! The reasoning seems to be the Wlad stoppage, the fact he hurt Vitali and Rahman saying he had the most power of anyone he's ever faced. That is nowhere near enough basis to say he belongs in the same sentence as Shavers.

It's funny though because this thread made me think about the one you posted in a week or two ago, asking how well Patterson and Ingo against Helenius. As usual, you get people talking about size, especially saying it means more power, and you correctly pointed out size doesn't make that much difference. I say "it's funny" because the same posters who disagreed with you back then, and said smaller fighters don't hit as hard, are now saying someone who would have weighed about 215lbs if he was in peak condition could hit as hard as the biggest puncher ever. It's crazy double standards.

He had a better record then Shavers and beat bigger names then Shavers ever did.

Shavers was a hard hitter for his size but he was a small man compared to Sanders. I think Sanders hit harder based on him being bigger and knocking out bigger men.

What next ? Is the harder hitter going to be debated between Wladimir and Marciano or better yet Sam Langford lol.

No he didn't. Shavers beat Norton, who would rank above Wlad in most lists. Aside from that, who did Sanders beat? Carlos De Leon? He didn't beat anyone as good as Jimmy Ellis, Joe Bugner or Jimmy Young. Aside from that, he also didn't prove himself against top level fighters, like Shavers did against Ali and Holmes.

If Sanders was in prime condition, without the fat, he'd be about 215lbs. Shavers was 210lbs in his prime, so there is very little difference in size.

Langford was a phenomenal puncher. Did he hit harder than Wlad? Unlikely but I'm certain the difference is far smaller than you think.

 

No I think Lewis, Wladimir hit harder for sure. Possibly Vitali and Helenius. There could be others punching power is hard to gauge.

Sanders was not fat no more fat then Shavers was.

It honestly seems ridiculous to me that a hard hitting small man hits as hard as a hard hitting big man but to each their own.
