Generally I'd say you're right. But what if A was kicking B's arse to he tune of a rare 10-8 rd, with no KD. Meaning a complete beating from the opening bell. B catches A and gets a flash KD. His only moment in the 1 sided round. What would you score?
3rd round of Cotto-pacquiao Cotto did the better overall work that round but got knocked down 2 of the judges ended up scoring it 10-9 giving Cotto 9 points instead of the usual 8 associate with the fighter who got knocked down it's funny that manny managed to get 10 points for the 10th round from 2 judges despite Bayless calling it a knockdown the judges clearly disobeyed him. Had they follow his call best manny could have got was 9 points
Again, kind of playing devil's advocate.......even if the KD wasn't a convincing KD?.... Also, consider the fact that there would be a 3 point(10-8 A to 10-9 B) swing.
That's just how it works. You get knocked down, you lose the round. Think of Cotto-Clottey round 1. It was a very close round that Clottey probably would've edged, but Cotto scored a flash knockdown in the last few seconds and all 3 judges saw it 10-8. 3 point swing.
No doubt. I'm not talking a very close round, or even a close round though. I'm talking a BEATING for 2:58. It's an interesting exercise. I'm not saying it's right, but technically could it be done? (without disregarding the ref's KD ruling.)
Taking a look back at the Pacquiao-Mosley scores - I think Dave Moretti must've scored the slip round 10-10. He had the final score 120-108, with Pacquiao surely getting a 10-8 in round 3. I don't know where we can get ahold of the official scorecards but I don't see any other way he could've come up with that score. I would assume the 10-10 had more to do with the obvious mistake by the referee than Pacquiao dominating the round, though. If it were a real knockdown I'm sure he scores it 10-9 Mosley.
