No one is ducking your boyfriend ***. He needs to rematch Prescott and Maidana or fight Guerrero, Mathysse, or even move up to 147 since he believes he is capable of standing in the same ring as Floyd.

 

Khan has no options cause he lost again. He should go back to England to fight on domestic level. If he win a few fights and revenge his KO loss against Prescott, he can come back to the world title stage

 

Nah man. He should just flat-out retire instead. Because, you know, after you lose a fight, you should give up all attempts to remain at that level you worked so hard for. Especially when you're only 25 years old.

 

I'm finished with Khan, the guy will never be an elite fighter. All the best coaching (Roach, Steward, Mayweather Snr, Richardson etc.) in the world cannot fix Khan's biggest flaw which undermines everything else....... ZERO ring IQ. Some 3 & 1/2 years later Khan with Roach & he hasn't really developed as a fighter, he's achilles heel is still pressure. You would have thought especially after the Maidana fight Khan would have been back in the gym working on his inside game (and all his other flaws which are too numerous to list) instead of flying back to the U.K. & putting his feet-up until the next training camp. Imagine working with Hopkins & Ward's trainer inbetween camps..... Credit to Amir in the first place for trying to get his career back on track after the Prescott debacle, the abuse he received for that loss was excessive and it was good to see him proving the detractors wrong but leaving aside his behaviour outside the ring, I am really disappointed n his lack of development as a fighter. He has plateaued, match him carefully and he will pick up another belt but he should never be mentioned as a viable opponent for Floyd again.

Maybe some of it is Roach's fault, lack of a solid inside game is a common trait with all Roach fighters. Also, Roach trains so many other fighters, outside of a training camp, Freddie just doesn't have the time to correct a fighter's flaws. Also, after watching Roach in the corner with first Linares, Manny & Khan, when his fighters were in real trouble I can't but help think that unfortunately Freddie's Parkinsons is becoming an issue...

 

That’s a bit harsh. Considering how he used to fight before, he’s made a lot of improvements. He wouldn’t be where he is today, if he didn’t. It’s also pretty difficult for him to remain in the gym with his trainer to work on his weaknesses like Hopkins, Ward, and even Rios seems to do. They’re guys that had/have trainers that have worked with them from a very young age, and practically live(d) with them. Khan can’t have that sort of relationship with a celebrity trainer like Roach – who’s committed to at least two other superstars and numerous prospects. It’s also important to note that 3 years isn’t long enough to perfect a fighter. How long has it taken Roach to get Pac where he is now?

But I do agree, though, that after the Maidana fight – which was necessary in bringing to surface the faults of Khan with his current game – it’s extremely disappointing to see that, in those 12 months, he’s not made any improvements when it comes to dealing with pressure. I honestly think we’re beginning to see a few crumbling blocks of the Wildcard. It’s not just Khan that’s jilted – Linares has, too (in remarkably similar circumstances). Not to mention the great Manny Pacquiao, who even after the Mosley fight, still couldn’t learn how to cut off the ring and manage distance with a retreating target. ****, this was even obvious back in the Cotto fight!

So, in regards to Khan, I think he and Roach need to consider bringing in an additional trainer/coach to give a different perspective on Khan’s defence/ring IQ. Sometimes when things are going really well (and they were for Khan - 7 straight dominant/impressive victories) – you tend to forget about what makes you vulnerable. Maybe they need a fresh pair of eyes to aid them.

In Khan’s case, he doesn’t have to be a really good inside fighter. He just has to learn how to be ok at it. You know, just do enough to survive and be fairly comfortable with it. And equally as important, he needs a better way of preventing his opponent from taking him there in the first place. Utilising the jab more effectively to control distance/pace, would be a good start.

There’s just no way he’s gonna’ transform into a good inside fighter. Very few people nowadays can master the art, and he himself just isn’t blessed with the physical attributes – mainly toughness – to do it.

 

You do need an inside game to cope with certain styles. Khan's inside game is not the major problem, he loses his head under pressure. We have seen him under pressure against Maidana, and he made mistakes, we seen him under intense pressure against Peterson, and he pretty much folded. Imagine him up against calculated pressure?

Roach is not on the slide, Khan just simply didn't listen. When Khan stuck to what Roach wanted, he was successful. You can't just throw the blame on the trainer when it is the boxer who is flawed.

Its about time people accepted that Peterson was the better fighter. The four fighters mentioned in this thread would knock the shite outa Khan.

regardless of the decision Khan has shown that he hasnt truly stepped up. he isnt in the p4p top ten and he isnt elite. He has plenty of work to do and plenty of whining to quit.
