Can Chavez Jr. be as great as his Dad?

No he can't, and I don't rate Senior as highly as most people do either.

Doesn't even fight a quarter of what his dad could. If not for Roach Jr would of been exposed acouple fights ago. Havent seen a good performance from him since Duddy. Actually, it was the ONLY performance where Jr impressed, but it wasn't like the arrival of a Mexican destroyer or second coming of a boxing savior.

 

Maybe Jr. can reach Pacquiao status, but he'll never fill his fathers shoes!:tong

It should be obvious at this point that he didn't inherit much of his father's genes

 

Here is a crazy unlikely scenario to where you have to talk about it of course it would be a insane amount of politics involved with alot of those matchups and alot can happen in this 5-6 year span such as new prospects etc.


160- fights and beats Martinez, Alvarez (lets assume he will move to 160 in the future around 2014) Lee, Pirog from the years 2012-2015

168- beats Ward in 2016 in a superfight (I did not include Bute because he would probably be retired by that year)

175- beats Clevery and Sillakh from the years 2016-2017 (I did not include Dawson who would be older and Hopkins who should be retired)

If he does that its hard to argue about comparing having a resume of Martinez, Alvarez, Lee, Pirog, Ward, Clevery and Sillakh and he would be under 30, but that said my short answer would be Hell No.

 

Any fighter has any chance, all depends on how they do.

People need to realize. Jr didn't have an amateur career just like Sr.

He's still learning, he's a paper champ. Hes got a ways to go.

No matter how well or great he does. He will be hard pressed to get out of his fathers spotlight.

 

He became a pro almost 9 years ago, so while he may be still learning, one would better not expect dramatic improvements.

If he barely wins with Zbik at this point... I think I can rest my case here.

 

He turned pro a little over 8 years ago but had'nt stepped up his opposition until just recently.

He doe'snt have the experience against high caliber opposition to fight Martinez.
Rubio is a step up from Manfredo. He's taking the proper steps up, though I too which he had'nt been given the opportunity to fight for a title when he's not ready to take on all comers.

The reality however is that there are and have been plenty of fighters like Chavez who get a title opportunity against the right opponent and then milk it for awhile and fight good but not great opposition.

Rubio then someone a step up from that, but definitely not Martinez at this point.
The next fight might be Margarito, and thats definitely a step up from Rubio.

Jr. beats both those guys I'm certain a great portion of ESB'ers will call it beating bums.
This kid carries the name Chavez, and a great many fans root against him because of it.:-(
