How would have Robert Fitzsimmons fared against Wladimir Klitschko?

AlthoughI think that a 165 pounder is grossly outmatched against a 245 pounder, I don't agree with the widely-held notion that these types of affairs would be over quickly.

I think some of the little guys would be the hardest to nail with a proper punch. Trying to pin down a little guy in a 20-foot ring when he can turn and move like no heavyweight can and present himself as a narrow and slippery target, isn't as easy as it seems.
Maybe Fitz was a bit slow and flat footed himself, but he might make a "robot" like Wlad have to work a lot to find him an easy target. It might be several tedious rounds.

 

Fitz doesn't stand a chance.

He's a great hw as janitor says but in terms of h2h matchups he's almost entirely out of his depth here.

He'd be undersized against the likes of patterson and charles, never mind the bigger small guys like byrd and walcott and never ever mind against the biggest great hw in wlad.

 

Thanks for your input guys. I myself find it hard to imagine Bob defeating Wlad aside from anything but a hail Mary punch, but I sure would be rooting for him.

 

Did you watch what Waldo did to Byrd and Chambers, two smaller guys who moved a bit better than Fitz (at least on available film)...?

 

Fitz had that sneaky power and Vlad would have to be be careful but I think the jab, movement and overall size difference would wear Bob down and allow Vlad to gain the confidence to unload forcing a stop or landing but Bob could land and it could have an impact

Fitz may not have moved as well, and may be twice as weak, but he's also a smaller target.

I think it lasts more tha five seconds.
(probably at least a few rounds)

I'm a believer in the "Size isn't everything" philosophy but there comes a point where it does matter and this matchup certainly applies. Say what you want about Vlad but he is good. He is well schooled and knows how to box. Combine that with his size and you have too much for a man the size of fitszimmons to overcome. Vlad is no Dunkhorst. He would stop Bob within 5 rounds.

He wouldn't KO Andre Ward whenever he felt like it in the real world.

Frankly, and hyperbole aside, Ward would give hims some problems.

 

I agree...nothing is easy and while size has an impact and is major in these instances there are other factors....

 

Fitz has a chance but I think Vlad is just too evolved for him, PLUS a MASSIVE weight advantage coulped with the fact that he hits pretty hard too. Fitz was a middleweight wasnt he? Roy Jones Junior would get mashed by Klitman, you know.

Fitz would hold the advantage in the ye olde rules though - Vlad would get seriously confusticated by them rules and trip up at some point.
