Why do people always pick the past fighters will beat modern fighters?

Its nostalgia for a big part if hearns was around nowadays the chincheckers would have the time of their life and threads like hearns vs trinidad would be seen as a joke.
But we usually remember the great things of boxers and forget the bad ones.
'Therefore a guy like lewis was an unpopular boring big boxer with a glass chin yet now he is one of the best heavies ever.
This will happen to the atg's of this era as well, marquez, barrera, morales, floyd, rjj, bhop, pac, klitschko's.
All of them will rise to legendary status as well years after retirment and future generations will mock their current fighters when someone will compare them to the greats of today.
But picking a prime leonard or heans over pac or floyd isnt a joke thats a very realistic prediction.
Its picking marciano over vitali or greb over rjj thats a nostalgic joke.

This^. And also fans hold modern fighters to a much higher standard than past greats. Look at how todays fans get all over a fighter like Boystov for fighting what they call "bums", then look at ATG George Foreman's opponents back in the 70s. Look at Jimmy Ellis' record, Ken Norton's,

It's because 9/10 the old fighters are better than the modern day. A large part of it is also that the older fighers now have a legacy/history/legend about them that a lot of new era fighters dont and so people are drawn to them.

For a lot of people from an older era they want to believe that they witnessed the best at that time and quite often they are right.

    It's all on YOU-TUBE!!!

There was only WBC/WBA back then & to get either belt you had to fight the best contenders all the way up. Today you've got TV titlelists who are sold too the young & gullible as World Champions. I had the same shite from my old-man about his era pancaking mine, but the difference today is we can see & compare & it's all on YOU-TUBE!!! How on earth can you lord mayweather as an ATG when he's avoided all challenges!!! It's ridicules!!! But Pacquiao could compete in any era but i doubt he'd have the longevity as the compitition ofrom divisions ram jammed stacked with hungry top contenders would take it's toll.

Today all you need to do is invent another governing body with a flashy strap & then suck some HBO dick & you are a modern day legend in the making. The best of each division today avoid each other for marketing reasons so in this modern HBO/PPv controlled era you'll never find out who's champion compared to the battle hardened warriors of recent years who relished the confrontation of unification fights & ducked NO ONE!!!

Boxing's been watered down so too speak. But god gave you eyes so ****in use them & it's all on YOU-TUBE!!!

Probably the majority of the fans who believe 'old-timers are better' are from the U.S. The increased globalisation of boxing has given many U.S fans the false impression that the standard of their boxers has fallen. Modern fighters, such as Mayweather and Hopkins, are as good as any US boxers from the past.

Boxing [with gloves] is NOT an old sport and is a sport which is still developing rapidly in terms of techniques and training methods. Boxing if anything probably has a wider gap than most other sports between modern participants and those from the past.

So true, apparently MW division is **** and lacks talent. Couldn't be further from the truth, imo it's the most talent stacked division right now and would be the best division if the good fights were made.

Sorry, but it's not all on youtube. You can only find past fighters high-light fights.
Try and find George Foreman vs 4-15-0 Terry Sorrell, and that was his fight just before he fought Frazier for the world title.
Every modern fighter is ripped apart for fighting opponents who were 100x better than past champions fought...

    Which poll(s) particularly annoyed you?
I vote for an old fighter if it is a genuine ATG who I believe would beat the opponent in the fantasy match-up.It should be taken on a fight by fight basis when voting and not just because it's an old or current fighter.
I will never be convinced that any current WW beats Leonard or MW beats Hagler. It sometimes comes down to cold hard truth.

Okay, what if suddenly there were far fewer schools and fewer teachers. Would the kids coming through be more intelligent?
Sports don't evolve on their own, evolve through competition and nurturing talent, something that has declined in boxing.

So many but Benn v.s. Ward annoyed me the most.
