He will do better than all of Floyd's opponents except Oscar. His jab will cause problems and we know he can go to the body.
kneels? jk body attack is the only thing i can think of. of course, mayweather is not going to stand still long enough for cotto to effectively attack his body. there is a reason not too many people wanted to see pac fight cotto again, he is no longer a serious threat to fighters of pac and floyds calibre.
I agree, but the reality is boxing does not honor that system. And therefore, most champs not just Cotto dont care to honor it themselves. At this level, you cant be concerned about fighting the top ranked fighter, Its about the most lucrative money making matchups. Sorry but Cotto is by far not the only one guilty of this. Why is Floyd fighting Cotto @ 154 instead of someone else @ 154?
What did Castillo going into their first fight do better than Floyd? Yet this was Floyds toughest fight.
Very difficult fight for Cotto, but i praised him, He have the balls to fight anyone. I hope He wins this fight.
Wouldnt say Floyd has all the physical skills. Cotto is bigger and stronger. But yes,i see Floyd winning this.
These are the x-factors i was talking about earlier, but still does not answer technically what Castillo did better going in?
There may not be a single fighter that Mayweather fans say does anything better than Mayweather. Does that mean he should never fight and just be awarded victories? Owning the better skill set doesn't always equate to W's. Just ask Juanma, Khan, Linares, Dawson, Berto, and Kirkland. And those were only in the past year or so. Cotto is a very skilled fighter who is capable of giving anyone a tough fight.
Margarito didn't look much worse than he usually did (looking to land hard punches in high volume while coming forward with almost 0 defensive concerns), and the differences were mainly coming from Cotto's technical improvements. Regardless of who was in front of Miguel, you could clearly see tighter punches, better balance, and much better movement.
Cotto is a leftie who fights right handed. His best punch is the left hook. His jab is decent to good. Floyd won´t get caught with a left hook. The few times Floyd has been caught flush, it´s always straight rights or right hooks (Oscar, Corley, Mosley and Castillo I). He´s practically immune to left hooks. If Pac was able to neutralize Cotto´s left jab by the 2nd round, I expect Floyd to do the same. On the other side, Cotto is good at timing his oponents, and knows how to fight someone faster than him (Judah, Mosley, early rounds against Pac). This time, he has a world class trainer with him. Floyd is getting slower. Still has great reflexes and anticipation, but he fights much more flat footed. That was clear in the fight with Ortiz. Cotto is WAAAAY more skilled than Ortiz. I mean... WAAAAAAAAAAY more skilled, calm and intelligent. I think this will be a good fight. Closer fight that Pac vs Cotto, but Floyd wins convincingly, 8 rnds to 4.
It's not about 'who does what better' it's about styles. They are different types of fighters. Cotto is an aggressive boxer-puncher, FLoyd is a counterpuncher. As for what Cotto does better, he's stronger, he's younger, he's bigger, he throws good combinations, good body puncher, and a great jab. I think his speed is pretty underrated too. At this point Floyd isn't all that much faster tbh.
I´m pretty sure that when Cotto faces Floyd, he will realise that Floyd is nowhere near as strong as Antonio Margarito. Faster? Definetely. Craftier? No doubt. But I don´t think Cotto will have to worry about getting mauled by Mayweather.
