He said at the time 'I'm a better fighter now, people in the business know I'm a better fighter now' - this was post-Rooney, not sure when
Tyson's balance was for punching balance, not stability balance. I think switching between stances effortlessly is the epitomy of good footwork and balance. How many fighters can actually do it while remaining fundamentally sound? If his footwork wasn't sound he wouldn't be in a position to land punches with good form, but he most often was Even the best defensive fighters get hit though, see Mayweather-Mosley/JLC/Corley/Judah or Whitaker-Mayweather/Mcgirt or Duran-Leonard/Hearns/Benitez/DeJEsus etc The thing about Tyson was from his debut-Douglas he was rarely hit, his punch connect ratio must have been at Mayweather levels
Tysons footwork was pretty ****, he got over exited sometimes and would end up in southpaw after a flurry or combo, it wasn't purposely, and trying to compare his accuracy and defense to someone like Mayweather is a joke
True and Tyson was a short fighter often fighting guys who were much taller with longer reaches so he had to get inside their power zone to land his shots. You saw a lot of slipping and punches that brushed off his gloves and head because his timing and reflexes were so good. He used that to setup his counters and attacks. Contrast that with the Tyson of the Ruddock fight who was often hit with a solid hook or uppercut before he threw back. The Tyson post prison rarely even counterpunched just rushed in throwing overhand bombs and loopy shots that often missed.
Not really. The commitment he put on punches and to maintain balance was pretty amazing. Tyson was very accurate and well balanced to put himself in position to throw those uppercuts and hooks while still keeping his defense and ability to counterpunch which is what in my opinion completely disappeared in his post prison comeback and why you saw so many shots wizz over opponents heads or have him falling forward into his opponent.
What allot of these guys don't realise is how hard it is to not be outboxed by a taller and rangier top level boxer No it's not a joke comparing Tyson's accuracy and defence to Mayweather's on connect ratio, Tyson rarely got hit and connected at will No one special imo but you've demonstrated you're not really a girl
You sure about that? Was last time I looked. Of course, I see what you mean, a girl couldn't possibly be a fan of your sport
He didn't remain fundamentally sound, and I agree with guyfawkes - Tyson got his feet muddled, it wasn't on purpose. Yes, he was balanced to throw hard shots, but he was putting himself in positions where a he could be wrong-footed by a good boxer. He rarely fought anyone brave enough to commit to doing much punching. But guys like Thomas, Tillis and Ribalta hit him quite a bit, to be fair.
I'm not gonna make a huge post but c'mon do u even know these guys records?? Marciano beat Archie Moore and Ezzard Charles to name just 2 Liston has many notable wins, most impressive is him destroying Floyd Patterson twice. Louis is arguably the greatest of all time, i don't have to defend his record, Holmes record is extensive also, And the Klits are jokes
mainly becuase Tyson kept making them miss with his headmovement and countering them ****ing hard well even Prime Ali could be hit quite a bit in some of his fights watch him fight jones, cooper, chuvalo, mildenberger - and old folley before he gassed
Extremely underrated aspect of his resume. Tyson was NOT a very big Heavyweight. 5-10, 215-219, 71" reach... fighting these guys: Berbick: 6-2, 218, 78" Smith: 6-4, 233, 82" Thomas: 6-3, 218, 77" Biggs: 6-5, 238, 80" Holmes: 6-3, 226, 81" Tubbs: 6-3, 238, 79" Spinks: 6-2, 212, 76" Bruno: 6-3, 228, 82" Williams: 6-4, 218, 79" Douglas: 6-5, 231, 84" Ruddock: 6-3, 228, 82" In the second Ruddock fight, he was outweighed by an absurd 22 lbs (216 to 238 ). And Tyson is expected to knock him out, just like that... Yeah. :think And I'd petition just about every single one of those fighters to be more skilled than a Jess Willard, Primo Carnera or Buddy Baer.
