It appears that many boxing fans dislike Floyd Mayweather. I think most of his haters are actually American. Why do Americans seem to hate Mayweather so much? If he was British, he would be a national hero.
Everyone I know (who follows boxing) is a Mayweather fan. And I'm a white American. I really don't know where the hate comes from.
it's simple. he's kind of an ******* to say the least. I am a floyd mayweather fan, not a *****, but I respect and admire his skills. that being said, dude's an ******* and that's how most people see him. he doesn't have a humble bone in his body, and it doesn't stop there. the guy isn't funny. it'd be different if he provoked laughter with his antics but he doesn't. he's a cold cocky fool.
Pretty much the consensus. Most people admire his skills but not his character, whereas the opposite is the same of Pacquaio for his fans.
its hard to be a fan of someone you know you wouldnt be able to stand if he was just a regular joe. its going to be interesting to read about floyd once all those parasites are no longer geting paid and no longer have to fake that loyalty. little snubs that they laugh off now are going to surface with some long brewing venom. friends you have to buy never stay friends for ever.
Is that based off what you see on TV or have you actually met the man, because I have, and he was nothing close to being an *******. In fact, humble and appreciative, is the impression I got after speaking with him. Some people really need to learn to separate the man from the persona. As far as the thread goes I don't know why people spend that much time hating someone they don't know. He burns money? - So what, it ain't yours. He beats women? - Does he? Do we know all the facts. Have we seen the evidence of abuse through the media? He contradicts himself? - So has every other boxer in the history of the sport. Same ****, different day. He says he's the best ever? - So what? That's his belief in himself. Does that mean its gospel? Hell no. You make your own damn opinion on where he stands in the ATG list. He ducks fighters? - All supposed ducked fighters happen to be with Top Rank? Notice the pattern. Floyd/Cotto was surprisingly easy to make when a certain someone wasn't involved. He talks trash? - And that is suppose to be a shock. Obviously some people have never been involved in some form of competitive sports. Floyd ain't perfect. Not by a long shot. Yes he says stupid **** from time to time. Yes he gets himself in some dumb situations(constant drama with baby momma and poking security guards in the face) but that's personal business. And the way I was raised was that PEOPLE'S PERSONAL BUSINESS IS THEIR OWN BUSINESS(celebrity or not). If it doesn't have anything to do with me, then I keep it moving. Unfortunately a lot of people don't feel that way. Especially in the States in this reality show era. Which is what draws the hate. But its a blessing in disguise because it is exactly the reason why Floyd stays rich.
He has an annoying personality, burned money in a crowd during an economic recession, and claims he's more accomplished than he really is. To people with a conscious or subconscious racist side to them, I'm sure they hate him because he is black, out-spoken, and successful too. He's not perfect, but he's not the devil. Somewhere in that medium, he just tends to rub a lot of people the wrong way, and it's not surprising.
African Americans love him. younger whites in america are split (mostly *******s). older whites hate him. mexicans are split when it comes to floyd. asians are *******s. haters gon hate
everyone is just stating their own personal opinion, which is their business, it has nothing to do with you. you could have acted like you say you were raised and kept it moving, but nooo... for some reason you have to go against how you were raised and get into peoples personal opinions that have nothing to do with you, all for the sake of some guy who dont care about those that like him, much less about those that dont. and thats the truth of this little situation.
As a Filipino American, I've no problem with him. I think he's a great fighter and an interesting character; I think papadoc28 did a good job of illuminating the facts that surround his controversy , and I think when talking about Floyd it's more important to bring those points up not as a means to condemn him, but rather to frame his character and give some perspective. So, obviously, Pacquiao is my main man, but I accept the flaws and same sort of framing arguments people affix to him. There's no problem with turning both men into characters and symbols; one of the most interesting aspects of boxing is that it acts as a morality play as much as it does an athletic event. Good natured nationalism and pride only serve to make the event more enjoyable and palpable, but too often it goes too far and that's where my problem comes in. I can't believe people still say "BLACKS LIKE MAYWEATHER" and "FLIPS LOVE MANNY", and turn the damn thing into a virtual race war. It's divisive and only serves to further perpetuate the vitriol of the "US VS THEM" mentality, which is not only lazy, but anathema to us all.
